But it won't matter for you, Midstate. You can board during Family Boarding.

Most people are decent human beings, I've seen parents arrange with children all the time on SW.Laley23;1783820 wrote:Also, didnt realize you had a 4 year old. Even if you dont jump anyone, hard to imagine nobody would move for you if all seats were taken.

I have never seen this.Belly35;1783828 wrote:They do over book ... so you could have to wait for the next flight if you are in the back of the line.

This is true. I like Southwest, because you are not worried about baggage fees and their prices are reasonable.lakeflyerMike;1783817 wrote:Let them know when you arrive at the gate that your flying with a young child and they will make sure your seated together. Flew SW to Houston this past summer with a 3 year old and we kinda jumped a few people in line thanks to the wonderful SW employees.

They can overbook, but I've never had them actually "bump" anyone. They ask for volunteers. I volunteered once and got a free flight out of it.
I look Southwest in flying before any other airline. I enjoy it a lot. I'm also a casual fly-guy, so I never would receive any benefits of other airlines.

Every airline overbooks occasionally. They aren't legally allowed to take off until someone accepts the vouture or whatever they offer to take the later flight. If you paid you have a seat.
Midstate, just ignore every single thing Belly has posted in this thread and read everyone else's lol.

Lol.
I'm not worried about flying with the daughter. As long as one of us is with her, I'll sit wherever. It's a short nonstop flight so fine by me

That is not how SW works Belly.Belly35;1783828 wrote:They do over book ... so you could have to wait for the next flight if you are in the back of the line.
The idea is simple... you arrive early and start to form a line behind this sign.
When the flight is ready to board the line begins to load into the plane ... you are not assigned a seat you can pick the seat you want if you are some of the first people in line.
Laley said it correctly.
Check in online on app exactly 24 hrs before flight and you will have late A/early B and no problems. C group is the one that gets stuck with the middle seats.
Your boarding group number is only based on how early you check in. It has nothing to do with getting there early and getting in line early.

I stand corrected ... I forgot that the times we fly to chicago we did get A, B or C group and stood in those lines to be board. My daughter who knew the system got the wife and i tickets each time ... A group I thought it was quick and smart way to do the ticket sales and board the plane. ... those who wait for the last minute goes to the end of the group line...jmog;1783978 wrote:That is not how SW works Belly.

Some airlines, maybe all, WILL bump you if you arrive after boarding ends (usually 15-20 minutes before departure) even if you have a seat.OSH;1783877 wrote:They can overbook, but I've never had them actually "bump" anyone.
