Nimmo was one of the names I saw in a possible deal for Bruce. He was also mentioned in a deal for Lucroy. They might want to keep Conforto just in case Cespedes walks. If they lose Cespedes and trade Conforto, that leaves them with Bruce and Granderson. The options in FA for LF are pretty thin too.

At this stage, I think what we see is what we get with Brandon Nimmo. He’ll draw some walks and play quality outfield defense, but I’m growing doubtful about the power development and his platoon splits remain troublesome, if not as bad as they were a couple of years ago. He’s gained 20 pounds of size and strength since high school with little appreciable change in in-game power due to the way his swing works. Messing with his swing mechanics or overall approach could cause more trouble than it is worth. His rating continues to hover in the lower range of the Bs as a guy who can be a fine role player but probably not a first-division starter. Grade B-.

I didn't see the word "current"...but then you put a career .380 OPS. Was that supposed to be slugging % or on base %?

Maybe I'm spoiled by the prospects/players that the Cubs received when they sold off to rebuild; but I am extremely under impressed by what the Reds have gotten in return.

Here are some of the Cubs' highlights in their rebuild. I'm not including some of the prospects that aren't up yet or didn't pan out. Seems like the Reds should be getting more in return (but then again maybe it's too early to tell).

2012:
Traded Ryan Dempster to TEX for Kyle Hendricks (currently the Cubs SP with the lowest ERA)
Traded Andrew Cashner to SD for Anthony Rizzo (not much needs to be said about this)

2013:
Traded Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger to BAL for Jake Arrieta (Cy Young Winning Pitcher) and Pedro Strop (one of the best set-up men in the business)
Traded Matt Garza to TEX for Carl Edwards Jr (one of the best young relievers in the Cubs BP) and Justin Grimm (another great long relief man in the Cubs BP)

2014:
Traded Jeff Samardzja and Jason Hammel (who re-signed with the Cubs after the season) for Addison Russell (all-star, starting shortstop) & Billy McKinney (part of what brought in Aroldis Champan).

Mix in drafting Kris Bryant and Kyle Scwarber, and that's how you rebuild a team.

Listen, I like the Reds and cheer for them when they're not playing the Cubs...but I just shake my head at how they have gone about rebuilding. Maybe I'm just spoiled by how well Theo & Jed did with CHC.

Snot, true. This was the case for a long time. When the big spending teams also figured out how to value young talent and build within, you then have all the leverage in the world to make deals in crunch time. See deals made by the Mets, Dodgers, Rangers, Cubs, etc. All have built very strong farm systems along with competitive teams, it allows them the flexibility to keep all of the guys they develop and hedge their bets on the prospects for guys others have developed, and now, can't afford.

On the other hand, take a team like the Indians, or Pirates and Royals in past years. Strapped financially, they only have a few bullets to fire in a short window of time, and after that, they have to hope they hit on a lot more of the guys they choose to keep. If not, their competition window closes fast (like it appears to be doing for KC, and somewhat, Pittsburgh).

I think this has been one of the Tigers biggest hurdles to winning that WS. The farm system has been abysmal
