Gotta upgrade the DJ setup, probably around $2500.

I may need to purchase a commuter car, depending on my place of employment, but I really hope that doesn't happen. I'd say something <12k.

We will be getting a new car at some point. Just waiting for the 2004 Altima to die.

Building a back deck.

Paying for our wedding/honeymoon.

Have you already done some searching? I was in the same situation with my 2005 Dodge Neon and then the AC unexpectedly gave out and I had to scramble to lease a new car...I was expecting the Neon to last another 4 or 5 months.

If my wifes grandparents die this year, our next big purchase will be their house.

Hopefully, we aren't buying a house in 2016.

Just got a new computer that arrived today, since my old one was getting out-of-date to the point where the 'net was slow, Steam wasn't supported any more and it didn't really have the power to be worth upgrading anyway.

Can't really think of anything major I'd want or need right now, but in a few months, that will probably change. It always does.

We're going to buy a used truck and a newish car. Probably a Camry or an Accord. I just got a 2013 Fusion a few months ago, so it will be his choice.

No planned big buys....just the ridiculous amount needed to pay for pharmacy school for the daughter.

Hopefully the cars hold out for all of us.

I hate car payments. I'm riding out my Jeep Liberty until, most likely, Labor Day weekend, and then will buy a new(er) vehicle. Kind of interested in the new Jeep Renegade but may go used.

Car payments are ridiculous. Going into debt for a depreciating asset isn't usually a great idea. With a little discipline people can sink the amount they would have had in a payment until they can purchase with cash.

I don't think of a car as an asset. I pay to drive around. It's not ridiculous.

Yea, no doubt your AC will be needed a lot in the next 4 or 5 months.

How you think of it doesn't mean it doesn't most times carry a depreciating market value that's being financed.

Think of it anyway you like. It's an expense...often times a necessary expense. Paying interest on it isn't always the greatest idea when you have the choice not to.

I agree, to a certain extent. I will usually buy used, not because I can't afford it, but because a new car depreciates the second you drive it off the lot. If I can find something with low miles, that I like, I'll just go with that. My mindset on this upcoming purchase is to just pay cash, new or used.

I would bet most people view it as an asset when the try and sell it or trade it in.

There are exceptions...if you can get a greater return on your reserves after tax than the charged interest expense on the vehicle it may make some sense/cents.
