I wonder if the same people who say men and women should be paid equally will cry about this.

Well, you already know the answer, there will be nothing said about this.

I don't really care what my colleagues make. I make my own success or failure and in the long run my true value will be reached. I am sure some make more than me and are worse than me at their jobs and some make less than me that are better. Over time, that will be corrected.

It's funny how you use the salaries of one subset of women in the workplace—CEOs, a profession still dominated by men—as "proof" that women don't earn less than men for the same job in America. If you can't see the problem with this, then perhaps you have some deeper-seated issues you need to work through before diving into a complicated and nuanced discussion armed with a Yahoo! finance article.

There are plenty of statistics prove that the wage gap is competently mythical and predicated on personal choices. For example:

I've never believed in a "war on women". In the finance world or otherwise. The kind of people who make these claims are also the same groups of people who get pissed if a woman takes a break from working to stay at home and raise their own children, as opposed to daycares/nannies/babysitters.

Some people just aren't happy unless they are unhappy.

I has been proven that when comparing men to women in the same field at same experience levels, the gap is less than 3% (within the statistical error).

Only when you lump all women vs all men regardless of what careers they are in do you get a "gap".

It it is a myth perpetuated in politics to swing votes.

I dont care what someone make ... I do my job and if women, black, gay etc can't do their job ..fire them without a lawsuit pending ....

I don't think there is an easy way to say if women make more than men or not. I agree you can't just look at every man's salary and every woman's salary and compare those two numbers because of differences in experience and skill.

But you also can't just compare salary between men and women with similar titles and experience because I do believe some women are not allowed to advance to higher levels.

I know people who don't like working with women. I also know people who don't like working with foreigners. I had a friend who used to work in a college admissions dept and he told me he would not accept people if they were from the east coast because he didn't like them. Discrimination happens all the time and I'm not sure there is an easy fix.

The one thing that we can guarantee is no one ever discriminates against white men. Everyone else, yes absolutely, but white men get a free pass in life and are always treated fairly.

I had to reread my post because I didn't think I was saying anything about what kind of people are discriminated against. I don't think it was clear.

Gotta love how feminists are all about equality only when it benefits them.

We are all different, we all have various attributes which affect our 'market value'. We all have the opportunity to do well or do poorly, and yes some have more of a hill to climb. But free markets are clearly the best at allocating resources, talents, and inputs and providing pathways to prosperity. It is getting to the point where government involvement, interference, intervention is distorting and burdening markets, and that gives rise to the socialist/marxist claims of unfairness, and the less-informed eat it up.

BIG government creates/invents issues, and then BIG government forces its liberal agenda upon The People.

It would be interesting to figure out just how many women who don't get the same pay in a given year had paid maternity leave. My wife is lucky enough to have 16 months of paid maternity leave but she is going to lose a portion of her commissions so she will show that she gets paid less this year vs. her male colleagues. The same goes for women in the legal profession who won't hit their hours but will get paid maternity leave.

And the fact is women want maternity leave and not men - by and large.

Seems to me that calls for universal paid leave and "equal pay" are kind of at odds.

I still think there are some cultural problems with some men treating strong white collar women as if they are bitches but I just don't see wanton pay discrimination on a per productivity basis. I mean there is a cottage industry within the Plaintiff's Bar on the hunt for it every day.

I do not deny that there is some discrimination out there and in some businesses a "glass ceiling" that needs 'worked on/fixed'.

However, there is DEFINITELY not a pay gap out there when looking at the same job/experience, this is a 100% myth.
