That is an old person thing. I was recently reading on Deadspin a column about how some old, rich college ADs were bitching because college athletes aren't spending their small stipends responsibly enough for their tastes. Came off as this, "We didn't want to give you anything, but we were told to...and you're spending it on tats!!!??? WAAAAHHHHHHHHH" thing.

Yeah, the way the questions are framed it looks like it was probably just referring to a bank savings account. But the studies I've seen usually consider 401k/IRA, etc..Most people don't put anything into those until they get close to 50 and say "oh shit, I have nothing saved for retirement"

The other funny thing about that survey - women save more on average, until they get into higher incomes then they save less than men....Because shopping :laugh:
