Veterans ……… we thank you America

Many times people who I don’t know, will randomly come up to thank me for my service.
Could be my Army Shirt, Vietnam Veteran Hat (I don’t wear hat that much), Purple Heart Plate or the sticker on my truck.
They will say, “Thank you for your service” and shake my hand.
For many years I was always caught off guard, never knowing what to say if anything.
I thought a long time about this and all the aspects of my service.

Today when this happens .. I hold the individual hand with a firm grip and I say, “It was my honor to serve you … and I thank you”

I would like to thank all that support the Veterans, all who have relatives serving, to those who family members that have served, parents of those who have been lost, the children of fallen soldiers, those who volunteer, the teacher that honor, medical personal the help, business that provide food, the children that pray for us and men and women who remember the Veterans…..

Not always the case .......

I respect people that have served overseas or spent anytime in service. What I don't respect is people who went to boot camp and now use their uniform to get free handouts and act like they deserve it. It's tacky and horseshit

Maybe for people with common sense but there are still idiots who frown on those that served.

Love being part of a military family. Father in law was in Vietnam and was shot(obv lived), brother in law is a hh-60 pilot and my wife was intelligence but in 5 weeks will be a graduate of the interservice physician assistant program. Very proud of them all.

Not real excited about the 6 month on and 6 month off deployments coming soon though...

Samesies. My paternal grandpa served in WWII, my dad was in Vietnam (Purple Heart recipient), and my brother served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Very proud and thankful for them, and everyone who has served.

I respect people in the military; most of them are good people and true gentlemen and ladies.

We should be able to live in a society where its OKAY to not like the military though. It seems now-a-days its PC to thank veterans and if you don't are deemed un-American.

Thanks to all current and former military men & women. Obligatory or not, it's the right thing to do and the right thing is seldom wrong.

Disliking the military is one thing...doesn't mean you have to dislike the sons and daughters that serve their country that you profiteer from...

Sorry Belly but I disagree. If someone wants to dislike the people in the military, they are free to do so.

So......I was walking down the street today and at the gas station (<- old people description), the owner has about 5 flags planted in his Devil's Strip (<- that's NE Ohio for "tree lawn"). One of them was tipped over and laying on the ground. I was incredulous about how many people drove by and especially pissed at the people pumping gas who could see it laying there and did nothing. So as I picked up the flag and put it back in the cup in the ground and stomped around the sides of it to make it more firm.......I cussed at some people.

BUT, then I remembered.........

Father in law is a retired Colonel and my Gpa received the Purple hear in WWII. God bless those that put their lives on the line for this great country!!!

A friend of mine, USMC vet, is hitting at least 15 spots today for their free food/drink. I'm jealous, both of his service and his tour today.

I told my fiance that if I was my dad or brother, I would try to hit at least 6 places.

My wife and two daughters begged me to go this morning to Bob Evans with them for breakfast (free for veteran), I agreed to go but didn&#8217;t feel right about doing so, I have always paid my way and never want to take advantage of something others need more than I. I&#8217;m very grateful that many business do support the veterans, many vets do need this help. Other vets I think this is a healing and remembrance moment that is important.


I was reading in the paper the other day that in Ohio many businesses are providing Purple Parking Space for DAV Veterans ( purple heart). I&#8217;m all for this idea (2 or 4 spots) but only if those business rethink the number of handicap parking spaces (way to many). There is no way that there are that many legally handicap individual driving around to justify that many spaces along with the pregnant women parking spots (2 or 4 for them also). Cut those handicap spot to half as many&#8230;

I can walk and walking is exercise and many who have handicap stickers are where they are now because they didn&#8217;t exercise ( not all but many) get off you ass and woo is me, I&#8217;m old and start walking&#8230;a little, it not going to kill you, if it does just means another handicap spot just opened up.

met a 96 year old that fought at Iwo Jima.

Unreal listening to his story of that battle.

All I could think was how unimportant everything in my life is compared to his.
