The following years (85) might have been the best overall small school group of 4 teams to be in the final four. Both Wehrle and Van Buren were undefeated and Skyvue and Jackson Center had one loss each. No, Buckeye Trail lost at state a couple years before and a couple years after the year I am talking about.

Buckeye Trail, Skyvue and Hiland were all very good for about a 6-7 year stretch. Definately some great small school hoops.

remember the Skyvue win over the Hawks back in the 80's. I think an overtime loss....??? Was it at Steubenville or Athens?? Anyway, the local paper had a photo of Courtney Erb from Hiland just crying his eyes out. Every time I see him on the streets, that's the first thing I think about.

I think your talking about 1985 when Skyvue beat Hiland in double overtime at Athens in the regional final. The game looked to be won or lost 3 or 4 times by one team or another only to have the other team make a huge play to tie it back up.

In 1984 Skyvue beat Hiland in the districts at Steubenville. That was Charlie Huggins last game. I remember it very well because several of us had attended Charlie's camps as kids. After the game I heard him tell Mitch Hannahs "I guess you boys learned a little too much at camp!"

In 1986 Hiland got their revenge by beating Skyvue in Athens in another nailbiter.

Those team teams waged some great battles.

I think they will have trouble replacing Jimmy Jackson(Ohio State committment). I look for Jimmy to be a pretty decent role player for the Buckeyes.
