He's definitely holding on to some false leverage generated by bad advice. I get that players want to maximize their contracts as much as possible but TT needs to realize the $80M a year offer was already an offer likely well above his actual NBA value. He's probably worth, with the new salary structure, $12-13M a year since he's basically a top tier reserve big man. The Cavs offer of $16M a year is more than fair and if he truly wants $96M then I would let him sign his qualifying offer and let him walk. He's not getting that elsewhere and I doubt he even gets close to the $80M the Cavs offering. The max I could see another team giving him next year is a 4 year/$56M deal and that doesn't include leaving $10M on the table next year.

Bitch move by his agent but I also understand that's the nature of the beast. As many have said, TT is getting some bad advice. He's not worth more than that punk from Golden State. I don't think much of Green but at least he can score.

I think Green is overpaid too.

Agreed and again, nature of the beast. Too many are overpaid.

What kind of offers do TT and Rich Paul think they'll get next year when TT's minutes and numbers go back to what they were during regular season next year? If Love and Mozgov are healthy, no way TT commands a huge contract next summer.

Not to mention Varejao. This is a gutsy move on TT's camp. If he signs the QO, he's losing money for certain. His minutes are going to be even more limited this season with Varejao into the mix and Love healthy, so I'm not sure what he's trying to pull. His minutes and numbers will both take a hit with more bigs in the rotation.

Exactly. And I'm glad the Cavs are digging their feet in the sand.

I don't think the Cavs blink here. TT is not needed to compete for championships as the core of Love, Irving, and Lebron is already there. TT is a luxury piece at this point.

Laughable that he thinks he's worth that much money, a one dimensional player.

Not to mention if he suffers a significant injury.

Here's how they should both handle it.

Cavs: TT, we'll pay you what the market says you're worth
TT: Okay, I'll field offers and expect you to match that offer
Cavs: Okay, whatever you get, we'll match
TT: Sounds great

Unfortunately, it sounds like egos will get in the way. I understand both sides. TT wants to strike when he can. The cap is going up, the Cavs are in all-in mode regardless of cost. The Cavs want to make sure he's worth the money, but also want to keep him. In the end, it's on TT. If he takes this 100% personally, then regardless of what the Cavs want, he will be gone when he gets the chance. This would prove he's NOT wanting the money first and foremost, but he wants the power and respect. Nobody will give him more money and opportunity than Cleveland.

Cavs wants to keep him but they don't "need" to keep him. The media really pimped him up during their playoff run. Don't get me wrong, he had a great playoffs but you never heard about TT getting paid until van gundy's goofy ass kept bringing up how great of a rebounder he is and how the Cavs should pay him.

The Cavs are in a great spot imo. If TT leaves, they lose their 5th best player and don't have his contract locked up for the future. Win-Win.

And this is how I expect the cavs to respond. Tell him to go test the market and when the offers come back 4 years $56M he will beg the Cavs for their offer.

The Cavs are in a win win scenario with TT.

Someone will give him a max contract, as like 20 teams have max contracts they can blow next year. It will most likely be a turd team though. Have fun winning 12 games a year TT.

yep. I gotta admit he's no fool, he's not worth a max contract, but if he's ever going to get one its within the next 2 years. It just pisses me off that he's being advised so poorly, the people he's listening too must have no knowledge of the time value of money. he's essentially giving up 10 million dollars now for 14 million in 6 years.

Someone is going to give a max contract to a 8ppg/8rpg player? No chance.

Someone probably will. 20 win teams dont become 20 win teams by making good decisions.

He has a name in the league which is going to warrant some team to overpay a little. However his production is nowhere near what you want in a max player. I hope some team does offer him a max deal and I hope that team is in the East because they will never win anything.

Sure they will, just to get him. And they will be a turd. And he'll win 12 games a year.

No reason why the Cavs won't go undefeated. The reality is, the Cavs will likely rest every player in the Big 3 multiple times during the regular season due to the risk of injuries. Lebron will get his standard 2 week vacation for "back problems" and it wouldn't surprise me if Love and Irving get something similar.

I'd suggest January 11-16 to rest the big three.

You could probably pull it back down to January 7th given Min and Phi as opponents. I think Delly can win those games by himself.

Do you think, given what we know now about this team, if they have a stretch similar to last year where their record is 19-20 and they're resting guys, that fans/media will freak out again and coming up with every reason why the team will be suck and how Lebron is leaving?

Smart Fans-No
Fairweather Fans-Yes
Media- Oh God Yes. If the Cavs aren't on pace to win 60-65, you'll hear about it.
