So I got to go out and golf today for my birthday. It was a nice treat with my brother in law whom I golf a lot with(and compete with, we love the game and we have grown a lot playing it together) , my best friend and his father (who are complete hacks, but are just fun to be around).
The brother in law and I used to be members to a small public course. Before I had the most amazing 2 and 1/2 year old little monster running around, him and I used the membership to it's fullest. Now the 2 year old dictator hath come, I don't get out as much.
Anyhow, I cant get off a tee, I cant hit an iron up, I can do nothing but putt. In our heyday him and I would hit mid 80's going 6-8 strokes either direction depending on conditions and the golf God's.
Through 6 holes I am NOT doing well, I shoot a 55 on the front 9. Im embarrassed because the 2 hacks are within 3 strokes of what im shooting.
then the Golf JESUS touches me, I shoot a 55 on the front 9 (which according to the course may be the longer but the easier of the 9 holes)....to going out and shooting a 40 on the back......drives straight and long, up for birdie on my seconds with a putt that is make-able...an eagle putt that I threw an Alice putt on and saved it for birdie, a pin seeker par 3 where I actually got wrapped up i the flag.....
Golf is a fickle fickle little bastard! But I DID have a blast, I blame my epic turn around on the hot dog I ate on the turn!
Anyone else have a golf day like this? One where one 9 is pretty much an atom bomb, but the second was a piece of art?

One of my college roomies played on the jr. pga tour and could have gone to college for golf or basketball. Him being a 6ft 7in white kid from Indiana he chose basketball.
I played some of my best rounds with him (usually lower 40s for 9 holes) but now I'm lucky to break 100 for 18. Keith (my roomy) was friggin' amazing with a lob wedge and never used a driver to tee off.

You obviously got into the swing oil on the front and by the time you got to the back it helped it your game. Congrat's

I shot a 35 (par 36) front 9 at my friends wedding rehearsal day. Proceeded to shoot a 48 on the back. I blame the beer a hole we were attempting...

Golf is a fun sport to play but its right there with baseball in that its incredibly boring to watch.
Then you have NASCAR about a trillion miles below that, assuming you consider it a sport.

My brother in law picked up the greens fees since he's a member, but I picked up the caddie for the group which was 40 a person. I cost me $200 total with a tip.

The caddie we had back in the day there carried two bags on a 96 degree day, and he knew his stuff. Great time.

Heading to Pinehurst over Labor Day weekend with a buddy. The plan is to leave on Thursday early afternoon and stay in Greensboro NC, we will play Tobacco Road at 8 on Friday morning. At 3 we are checking in at Pinehurst Resort and playing #2 that afternoon. Saturday morning we are playing # 8 and would like to play somewhere else that afternoon. Can anyone recommend another course to play within a reasonable distance from Pinehurst?

I enjoyed both Pine Needles and Forest Creek South. Weekends will be very pricy, though.

I think my biggest switch within a round was a +7 on back 9 (played it first) and then went -2 on the front
late in high school I played in my course's club championship and ragged an 87 on Day 1 but threw a 73 on day 2
