That, and while I'm preferring MMA to boxing now, one can't understate how much the combination of diluting the product with a ton of cards, many featuring no names AND seemingly every big name getting injured or suspended is retarding MMA's progress in being the king of that sort of sport. Tradition might be all boxing has going for it, but MMA isn't exactly lighting the world on fire, either.

Canelo is not a huge draw, his ppv fight after the Floyd fight drew around 300K buys, that's about what Jose Aldo is. I've been watching boxing since the early 90's but it's not the same sport it once was, it's a business, there are very few classic fights anymore. There are some fun fighters out there but the general public doesn't know who they are. Last night was a chance for boxing to boost itself in a big way and it was a total let down. I'll still watch but it's not about the best guys fighting the best anymore, most guys are protected as hell until they can get to a few big pay days.

Money wise yes, interest wise no. The UFC does big fights every month, this fight was an anomaly business wise, they fooled everyone.

Canelo/Kirkland next weekend will be a much better fight.

Trust me I would prefer to watch a UFC match over boxing any day. But I'm talking strictly pay per view dollars which equates to boxing still having more interest than UFC. UFC 172 had about 350,000 pay per view buys while the Pacquiao/Bradley fight had about 775,000.

I get what you're saying but boxing only has two PPV draws, Manny and Floyd who are almost retired, someone else will have to step up. The UFC has sold more PPV's than vboxing for like 8 straight years. This Floyd and Manny fight probably did an unreal number though, they let it sit and marinate with the general population for 6 years, played everyone.

Is there an official number out for PPV buys? 5 million?

No that won't be out likely for a few weeks, I'm guessing around 3 million, could be more but I heard a lot of people couldn't order because of the overload of last minute orders. Could hurt the final number. They did themselves no favors with the $100 price tag with the casuals, a lot of people feeling ripped off after that stinker.

Some friends and I projected from firstrowsports for $0. The picture was fuzzy but we never lost our feed, and we knew it would be too much defense from Floyd to bother paying.

Pacman fights hurt to get his payday. Biggest moneygrab in recent memory. Nice job sheeple!

At least it helps explain why his activity level wasn't near what people expected. If I had a torn rotator cuff and couldn't take any pain killers I would be struggling out there as well.

I think the rematch is straight retarded. I didn't watch the fight but anyone I talked to expressed the same thing "boring, waste of money, never again". The next fight will bring in 2% of what this fight did if that.

I doubt. People are stupid. They will hype the shit out of it and we'll all be duped again.

It'll still make money but I think the casual fans won't give a shit.

It won't be as big, but if they claim Manny is healthy, it will still out sell any boxing or UFC PPV other than this one. I mean, UFC isn't exactly tearing it up and I don't see any super, super card draws coming...Jones vs Rumble was about as close as it was going to get.

I don't know why you keep saying we all got "duped"

I knew exactly what would happen in this fight and that actually happened. I paid the $100 because it's just a hundred and I was happy with what I saw. I watched for the surprise of an upset or something crazy happening. It didn't but I don't feel I got duped.

Now if you came into this thinking it would be a knockout fest, maybe those people got duped. Or they're just retards.

You came in expecting a 100% Pacman, right?

You don't care that you dropped $100 and he hid the injury?

fwiw I think the result is the same even if he is 100%.....Floyd in a decision after a boring ass fight.

The same will happen in the rematch. They are close to 40, it's a fucking joke. Will you drop another $100 on that one?

Doubt it will be $100. Probably $60 or $70. Bottom line, they will get people to buy it.

I'm going with $120.

But you're right. People will eat it up. Fight of the Millennium 2.0! The rematch!!

UFC 187 and 189 are tremendous cards, boxing ppv cards pale in comparison to that type of quality.

True.

and while MMA is more popular than boxing there just is something....different and special, that bring people to the table for a big time boxing event. The history, the rarity of a big event (UFCs are common) and the mystique of a big time boxing match does trump MMA.....even if MMA is a more popular event.
Doesnt quite make sense.....but it is just how it goes.

If there is a rematch it will be pumped up that Pac is now healthy and it will be a real fight, blah blah blah. I doubt you see the price lowered.

and because of "glitches" it will be pushed back later and later in the evening to get even more buys at the time.
