The University of Chicago was a charter member of the Big Ten and a national power in the early days of college football. Over time, their football program became irrelevant. In 1939, they dropped football. They went 30 years without football, and then came back to compete at the division III level.

The University of Michigan parallels this situation. They haven't won a national championship in 66 years. The program is irrelevant. How many times last season were there 80,000+ empty seats in the 4th quarter?

Should they just shut down the program until 2045 and come back in Division III? I doubt they could compete with Mount Union, but they might be able to beat Hiram.

Are you desperate that you are counting a shared title? At OSU we win outright titles.

I never hear a Buckeye fan talking about a shared title. They talk about 2002, 2014, or 1968 for old timers. Michigan hasn't won a national title in almost 70 years. They talk about Bo being a great coach, but he never won a title. Michigan worships a mediocre coach and celebrates ties. When winning no longer matters, it is time for the school to drop the program.

Yes, please punish the 2 schools that year Michigan and Nebraska for opporating under the rules at the time. Unlike the BCS and now the playoffs, we didn't have the luxury of having the two best teams playing that year, so as a result, let's not count the accomplishments of either school. Seems like a great plan.

And if winning didn't matter, RichRod would still be in Ann Arbor or Brady Hoke even.

It's not even just about titles. They won 1 BCS bowl game; one. Useless.

Talk about going over a head. The desperation comment was in response to being called desperate for claiming a "shared" title. Jesus there are some dense people here.

No one is being punished. They tied each other. I just find it funny that Michigan fans get excited about a tie. OSU just sets the bar higher. We expect and demand excellence. We celebrate winning, while Michigan celebrates ties and moral victories. You look at Bo as a great coach. Granted, Bo put up a great record against the bad teams, but he couldn't win the big games. At OSU, we call that John Cooper and make jokes about it. It is all about setting high goals and working to reach them.

That certainly is a flaw on his resume, no doubt. Interestingly, if he had today's system, he would have made the playoffs 6 times. If OSU's last 2 championships were under the old system, they'd have neither one.

That is meant to say nothing more than how interesting it is the way history is written under different systems.

How do you know OSU wouldn't have won it? Are you making up imaginary results to your pretend bowl games that never happened?

They wouldn't have played #1 and therefore likely not finish 1st. I guess hypothetically they could have if the right teams lost.

Exactly. We have no idea where they would have finished. It truly is sad that Michigan football has fallen to the point where you have to play fantasy football games in your head to try to take away the championship of your rival. The almost 70 year title drought is messing with your head. It really might be time to shut down the program since it is having a negative impact on your mental health.
