Why not? They made the NCAA in basketball and, let's face it, they're Buffalo. They need any help from anyone at anytime they possibly can get, as that place is the unwashed ball sack of America.

Notre Dame fans? They are known more for being unrealistic as hell about how terrible their football program is rather than having a bandwagon fan base. Who cares? ND sucks in both football and basketball. This is like asking "What about Akron fans"? They both have as many championships in the last 20 years as I do.

Cool story bro. Tell us more about your parents are bandwagon fans and indoctrinated their child into rooting for a successful program but for basketball only. That's not an excuse. How's that Kentucky football team looking this year? Should we start a thread?

If they root for them in all sports, good for them. I'm cool with that.

Let's say that guy is an OSU fan. At age 5 they were the shit, Eddie George era. Then that same fan likes hoops too....oh shit OSU is mediocre, but those Dookies, they are a power!

Again, fuck that.

Even worse, that same person talks shit on OSU during hoops season....i.e. ccrunner.

And maybe for another thread but can we stop calling ND 'being good' good for college football? They haven't been good since I've been born and they aren't ever going to be and college football is still the best sport on the planet. ND is the special princess of college football because they have such tradition and shit but no relevant wins in 20+ years and no prospects for any wins that my 3rd grade pop warner team couldn't achieve as well. If ND wants any respect, they should join a real conference and work their way up rather than pretending they are special. The reality is, we need to stop making special exceptions for an arrogant program with a delusional fan base.

Ha. Aside from you're trolling which doesn't need a response, your premise isn't even correct. A UK football thread wouldn't really get relevant discussion on an Ohio Chatter forum, but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist in other spaces. That's the whole context of this topic. It's like starting a New York Yankees season thread on the pro sports forum. It's a relevant discussion but not on in this setting.

That's pretty much how I feel. It's one thing if you are Duke all the way in all sports and a fan of cool things the school does, but if you just wake up and paint your face blue during basketball season and then turn around and root for another school in the fall because Duke is absolute trash in football; you are a piece of shit bandwagon fan and deserve nothing.

Would you say you're proud to be a Saudi? Prob not bc you're not from there and have no connection to the area/people. Maybe you picked them as an indetifier because their GDP looked good. That's essentially what being an OSU football/KU basketball fan is. One colossal fail.

We don't disagree on that.

He's just calling out the 5 or 6 Duke fans on here...and aren't most of them Duke football fans too? If they are, most casual observers wouldn't know it by reading these forums because there's little relevant discussion about Duke football. I love UK football but in 15 years on JJ and OC, I've mentioned them maybe a total of a dozen times. Doesn't make the fanhood any less.

I took pride in rooting for OSU hoops when they sucked and pulling for Jimmy Jackson as a young kid. Later on it was Scoonie and Mike Redd, while a lot of my friends slurped Vince Carter and UNC. Fuck that.
Same way. Knew more than a couple OSU football/UK basketball fans (this was late 90s early 00s), and a ton of OSU football/UC basketball. I was that way too until one day I thought it was dumb to root for different universities since I was only going to go to one. Picked Ohio State and never looked back. Luckily the year after was when Scoonie Penn came to OSU and they made the Final Four, haha.

No, I made the thread to call out the 99% of Duke fans who are Duke fans in basketball but root for another school in football. The reality is those people are as common as H20, deserve nothing, and are complete trash.

Lol Wasn't drarby a New York Yankees fan? And started his own Yankee threads? Which is where the infamous 50+ posts in a row without a response thread started?

Or am I completely wrong?

I was 8 when Laettner hit the shot. I became a fan that day. Other than some non-immediate relatives who were fans, I wasn't raised that way. My parents had no affiliation to it. Continued to support them, decided to go to school there and 23 years later, still a fan.

So yes, living in Ohio, my fandom was started because of seeing a non-local team on national television, but I see it as the same thing as any 8-year old in Ohio who really "watches" his first Buckeye game and becomes hooked then.

Yes.

On one hand, at least there was justification. When he was a kid, that's when Columbus was the Yankees AAA affiliate, so he probably grew up watching a lot of the main Yankees guys of the past 20 years while they played there.

On the other, giving a public that doesn't give a shit a running play-by-play broadcast of a game because you're a giant post-padder who thinks post # equals e-dick size....fuck that shit.

Exactly.
Most fanhoods start at a young age. IU hoops fan because, while growing up, we had 5-6 channels and 4 of them were from Ft Wayne and carried the Hoosiers. Only time I saw OSU hoops on tv was when they played the Hoosiers. Hell, indiana HS hoops was way ahead of Ohio in putting their games on TV. New and followed indiana HS hoops more than Ohio...even went to the finals one year to see Damon Bailey.

but anyways...Duke Football getting its own topic. Now I have seen everything here!

There are many, many OSU fans I know who are fans of diff college basketball teams.

Question: If I'm living in North Carolina in 10 years and by some miracle the Browns are a good team, do my kids get a pass in rooting for them, or do they have to be Panthers fans?

does?

My pleasure... as if people watching college sports choose a game or team based on what "fans" of other programs define them as. Lol
