Not a fan of the dual QB system, but not totally against it.
It just seems like it can throw a team's offense out of rhythm at times.

Neither am I. If UM is to do something with multiple QB's it would be whomever is the starter, and then Braxton Miller in the backfield. Can snap to either, run or pass. A play I am thinking is 2 WR split both sides. DIrect snap to one of the the QB's, theyboth roll out opposite sides. On TV we all know who has it, but for a LB and DB's it could cause a little confusion as to whom has it andwill be throwing it.Automatik;1717561 wrote:Not a fan of the dual QB system, but not totally against it.

IMO if the 2 QB system is going to work it's with one of the QB's under center and another lined up wide. Before the snap if the second QB out wide can: 1) run a route (highly unlikely); 2) catch a bubble screen and either 2a) double pass from there or 2b) run with it; 3) come in motion and get the ball in a position to run or roll out and throw (ala Spencer in the 'Bama game); or 4) come in motion and line up in the backfield with the primary QB.
If you're going to use a second QB they need to be separated in order to space the defense as much as possible, which is Urban's whole MO. Putting them next to each other doesn't really accomplish that.

The double passes usually only work when it is a surprise, and any time they would put a WR out there that is an instant alarm that it may happen. Hell.....even teams in HS are alerted when a known QB is spread out wide.lhslep134;1717574 wrote:IMO if the 2 QB system is going to work it's with one of the QB's under center and another lined up wide. I really am not a fan of it either.

But if you have a QB lined up there large portion of the time it's no longer a surprise but a wrinkle that must be game planned for.thavoice;1717575 wrote:The double passes usually only work when it is a surprise, and any time they would put a WR out there that is an instant alarm that it may happen. The wildcat isn't valuable as a surprise when you run it once or twice a game because you know the possible outcomes. When you run the wildcat a larger portion of the time you create wrinkles that forces the defense to game plan for it.

And I assuming that any of their WR's they have are much better route runners and receivers than the QB. OSU is too good to have to rely on that kind of tomfoolery. As a defensive coord I would probably rather see the other QB line up at WR 10-15 times a game knowing he is a much easier guard that the rest of their guys.

Right, which is why I'm not a fan of the 2 QB system. I was only advocating for how I think it would work if we were to try and implement it.thavoice;1717578 wrote: OSU is too good to have to rely on that kind of tomfoolery. a 2 QB system would not have Miller in it if they are smart

While I agree with that, I think that if they do use 2 QB's in on the same play one should be BM. Right now I would consider him the 3rd option at QB so if he got injured it wouldnt be as bad as if the other two got hurt.Spock;1717617 wrote:a 2 QB system would not have Miller in it if they are smart

I like Cardale. The obvious thing to worry about there is that he's not good for the long haul - that he can't sustain a high level. THat will never be known if he sits. My vote is to start him and let JT and Braxton compete for the #2

I think Braxton is very different from Cardale & Barrett. The other two are athletic, but within the norm of duel threat qbs. Braxton is on a different level. If a backup was to get a lot of secondary reps it should be him due to the fact he is more of a home run waiting to happen with running the ball.
