Watch out. The Knights are on the prowl. Another huge win on the road. It doesn't matter what the score is or what strategy you employ. Just win, baby! Weisenborn is playing extremely well but it takes five guys to win and Otsego plays as a team. I think we give credit where credit is due. Nice job Coaches.

^^^ Agreed The only well coached team in the SLL is Otsego.

I can't argue that the best coach in the SLL is at Otsego.

Another note on last night's game. The Royals came into the game shooting almost 40% from the 3 point line. Last night they were 0-8. Very uncharacteristic for them to shoot that poorly from there. Otsego made 6 3's. If Elmwood shoots anywhere close to their percentage, the game turns out differently. Also, when the lead went to 9 early in the 4th quarter, Elmwood turned up the defensive pressure. Can't understand why they waited so long to do this. Otsego is not a deep team and the pressure got to them.

Elmwood over Van Buren 74-61

Shorty Tyson with 20, Jay Hannah 17, TJ Waldock 15, and Kevin Hammer with 10. Very impressive win. The defensive full coart pressure by the Royals was intense and the shooting came back tonight. (8-15 from 3) If this team would play consistent, they would be hard to beat.

I agree with you royal_k. When you look at the kids the Royals put on the floor, the pieces are definitely there for a very good ball club. If they can put a streak together and play up to their potential consistently, they can do some damage before the league race is over.

Note-worthy stat from last night's Genoa/Cardinal Stritch game. Stephen Clark set a school record for three pointers with 7 and finished with 22. Congratulations to Clark on a good night.

Good Weekend for the SLL, although the teams the SLL played were awful. Stritch and H-L are winless. I thought Lake lost per the Blade???
Most surprising was Woodmore beating Lakota. Good win for the Wildcats.

Somehow I don't think Otsego ends up winning the SLL, but if not the Knights, then who? It is likely the crown won't be decided until the last game -- maybe not a great season of basketball but a very competitive year which makes things exciting regardless.

You may be right about Otsego, ross ford81, but it is true that the Knights already own two huge road wins against the Comets and the Royals and while they could turn around and lose the return matches at home, even if they just split, it would really make things tough for anyone else to catch them. Now, certainly we have not considered unfortunate injuries to key players, grade issues etc., but I would have to say that right now the Knights seem to really have it going on and they seem pretty much focused and ready to take a real shot at this thing.

No doubt the Knights have been impressive but we are only 4 games into the SLL season. Knights have two games against Eastwood yet plus Genoa and Elmwood again. Regardless, I expect Otsego to be in the race until then end, as I noted, it is not easy to see anyone who is the favorite right now.

The Lake score may have been wrong. I did see the Blade had it different after I posted. They had it 56-47 Swanton.

Also, I wouldn't say all the teams are awful that were played saturday. Van Buren lost to LB by only 14. They also beat New Riegel by 9, their only loss, and beat Otsego by 9. They are both solid teams. It was a very good road win for Elmwood.

SLL games tuesday night

Gibsonburg at Genoa
Woodmore at Elmwood
Lake at Eastwood

OOC

Evergreen at Otsego

Should be a good test for Otsego. Evergreen is one of the favorites in the NWOAL, and is 8-1 with wins over Archbold and Wauseon.

Heard from a reliable source that Eastwood beat Lake 41-37, and that Lake was in the game late, and even up with a few minutes to go.

What's going on in Eastwood? On paper thay should be winning these games convincingly, and then they go out and win nailbiters. What's wrong over there?

I've only seen them once. That was against Elmwood. From what I saw, it is pretty much their guard play. They got no contributions from any of their guards and shot poorly when they tried.

They did play Toledo CC tough, so the ability to play is there.

I looked at the game stats from the Eastwood/Lake game and I think you're right royal_k, Juergens had 13, Rolf had 16, Ruch had 8. All post players. Schmeltz had only 4 and he was the only guard to score. I noticed when Genoa played Eastwood that the guards are lacking, but I figured it was early and they would get better. If not their exceptional post players would compensate for that. Eastwood plays Otsego this friday and the Eagles guards have to step it up or Weisenborn will light it up.

Lester had 22 points, 11 boards. Wonnell had 18 and Bassitt had 14 and must have hit 10+ assists? I don't have that stat.

Had a friend at the Otsego game last night. Otsego was up 2 late in the game, but couldn't close it out. Still an impressive showing against a pretty good Evergreen team.

Even with the mismatch down low, I don't see Eastwood beating Otsego friday.

I know earlier this year their was alot of moaning about the quality of ball in the area. For those who were like me " moaning" I suggest you go check out Port Clinton. The 10th ranked redskin's are playing some great basketball and are a blast to watch. It's a shame that we couldnt combine the Genoa and Port Clinton team's somehow because then we'd have a bunch that could win the d2 state title. A line up of say....

C- Wonnell
F- Hicks
F- Francis
PG- Tigner
SG- Colston

With Lester, Bassit, Brown, Fravel and Clark on the bench. This would just be a lethal line up! Now before the genoa folks have a heart attack about having Bassit and Lester on the bench there is some logic behind why I put them there. I love the way Lester play's but Francis has a higher basketball IQ imo and is a better defender. Bassit is on the bench instead of Tigner because he has zero expierence running the point on a organized and well disciplined offense. I also think Tigner is a step quicker and has better court vision.

Ahhhhhh pipe dreams.
