My friends and I are heading to Boston June 5-9 for a Red Sox game and sightseeing. We have an apartment in Jamaica Plain that is like 3 minutes from the green and orange lines, so getting around the city will be fairly easy.

I have a few questions. Has anyone been to a game at Fenway? Where do you recommend sitting? They have standing room tickets starting at $23, and actual seats start at $33.

Anything in particular we should see while we are in the city? We will have a lot of time since we are only going to one game. Any great restaurants you can recommend?

Anywhere in Fenway is good. It's a really small stadium. Be careful in Jamaica Plain because there are a lot of bad areas there.

Be carefuk, Fenway still has obstructed view seats, so make sure you don't buy one of those tickets. Also, if she's near the green line, she's not in a bad part of Jamaica, she's closer to Brookline.

You should just do the freedom trail tour. It's self guided and takes you all over the historic parts of the city.

Yeah, not super worried about the neighborhood. The townhouse has excellent reviews on airbnb, and I did some research before booking.

I was looking at bleacher seats for the game, but they appear to be sold out. We may just do SRO on the Bud Light or Coke decks. I go to 12-15 Indians game a year, and we almost always stand out in right field. As long as we can walk around the whole stadium, that's probably what we will do. We got cheap seats at Wrigley and US Cellular last year and we only sat in them for a couple innings at most.

I don't know how into baseball you guys are-but they give tours of Fenway Park up until 3 hours before game time if that would interest you.

Oooh, thanks! I will look into that for sure. I guess it wouldn't matter where we stood/sat or if we had access to roam around if we did the tour first.

Get drunk before the game, it's one of the most expensive parks i've ever been to.

That's the plan.

We sat behind third base and my husband caught a foul ball. I don't think it matters where you sit, just being there is amazing. And you can always wander. The Freedom Trail is very cool, especially if you're into history, but still interesting if you aren't. Cheers is right on the trail. Gotta stop and drink a beer there. Union Oyster House has amazing seafood (also on the trail). It's kind of small and old inside but it's the oldest restaurant I believe in the United States. USS Constitution is also on the trail and that was really cool. We took a ferry to Provincetown (Cape Cod) which was a blast. The ferry was a little spendy (90 bucks each) but we saw a couple whales on the way over so money well spent.

I loved Boston and would go back in a heartbeat.

Do not go to Cheers.

Loved that show and probably the first show I can remember getting bummed when it ended.

as far as i know it's cheers, and as far as i know, no one from boston is inside that bar.

100% true. My husband laughs at people who always say something about going to Cheers when he tells them he's from Boston.

Cheers wasnt even used as the bar for the show. I mean, they shot it in LA, and then in like Season 3 when they used exterior shots they just picked a random bar in Boston...that bar later CHANGED its name to Cheers to capitalize on the shows success.

Of course...Ive been there lol

Bull and Finch Pub is what it was called. It got terrible rating the first couple of seasons and if that happened now...it woulda never made it past season 1.

It became such a huge show SI did a cover story of Sam Malone

A lot people can't stand it, but i actually liked going out and getting drunk in Cambridge.

That's where my husband is from. I can say they have some really cool bars and some really good places to eat. Just avoid the Harvard crowd there are plenty of places to go.
