I put crabgrass preventer down on Wednesday. I need to get a few stumps removed and then bring in a truckload of dirt to even out the area then seed an area that's about 10x30'.

Your crabgrass preventer lasts for 3-4 months. You won't be able to seed anywhere where you spread it until after the 3-4 months. By that time it's mid summer and a bad time to seed anyway. Best bet now is to wait until fall to seed. The fall is the best time to seed anyway.sportchampps;1718587 wrote:I put crabgrass preventer down on Wednesday. I didn't put the crabgrass preventer where I need to seed. The area I need to seed is an area in the backyard that was previously wooded. I cleared the woods out last year cut about 6-7 trees down and killed all the weeds out.

I have a new home in SC and there is some sort of weed all over the place. The lawn is new, so I don't think I am supposed to use herbicide on it. Gonna be a lot of weeding it looks like.
For those of you with a raised garden, is there any websites you like? I am thinking of starting one in a location that gets sun most of the day, and just looking for any websites I should read up on.

Was going to try and till the garden today. I changed the oil in the tiller and put fresh gas in it. Started it up and was heading to the garden when some noises followed by a loud bang from the motor occured. After 25years it bit the dust. Going to find me a new motor and hope to get another 25 out of it.

It's almost dry enough to till around here, but instead I just did a little prepping on my plot with a rake.
Planted some seeds in doors today in one of those cheap plastic seed starters. Had good success with transplanting from those to outside last year. (Except for a minor setback when I had them set out to harden up and the wind blew a door mat on top of some of them!)

I had canceled our lawn service last year after our backyard got all dug up from some construction projects. I know it's not best to plant grass in the Spring, but with the rain we were getting this week, I figured I'd give it a shot to try to get some of the dead spots filled in by summer.
So yesterday morning, I seeded the lawn and bought some dirt with the starter fertilizer mixed in. Went to town on a bunch of the bare spots in the yard. Today, I go out to get the mail and realize that the fucking lawn care company came by today and put down the pre-emergent. Pretty sure they totally fucked over everything I did yesterday. I am not happy right now.

Ya. Definitely pissed about this. I guess the plus side is that there is no way I'm going to pay for this treatment. So I guess I'm getting a free treatment of pre-emergence...but will have a shitty looking yard all summer long.

Yes. You want it to be watered in. It's supposed to rain tomorrow too. The water will break down the granules and start the chemical reaction to shield the soil.

Of the seeds I started inside on Easter, I have zucchini, peas and lettuce sprouting after only 3 days!
They have risen!

FInally got the crabgrass preventerand weed/feed in this morning. Was in Kentucky for 4 days and down there the dandelions are already sprouting and I thought I maybe missed the chance. Do have the SCotts dandelion weed feed that works great, but from what I read that isnt a preventer as much and ya need to put that in when they start showing up.
First mow this weekend and the yard season begins!

Anyone have advice for an area that doesnt get much sun? One side of the house doesnt get much sun and its covered in trees. I usually only have to mow it every other time. Anyone know a way to get that grass to look as green and full as the rest ofthe yard?

You should wait 6-8 weeks before putting down your Weed and Feed after the crabgrass treatment.thavoice;1721621 wrote:FInally got the crabgrass preventerand weed/feed in this morning. Not much you can do unless you want to trim back your trees. You can try to plant some different grass in the fall. A fescue or rye.thavoice;1721622 wrote:Anyone have advice for an area that doesnt get much sun? One side of the house doesnt get much sun and its covered in trees. I know I should wait but I will put the dandelion stuff and weed/feed down when they start popping up...waiting at least 4 weeks hopefully from this feeding. Looking forward to the first mow to get the yard all even again. The rain tomorrow should help with it an dmow on saturday.

I'm in southern Ohio. Everything gets green 2 weeks before you in the spring and we lose our leaves in the fall 2 weeks after you.

See where ACE had free scotts lawn food if you bought a weed and feed?
Lawn starting to look pretty lush. Does it really take a few years of really taking care of it to get that all around great look? I slowly notice mine being much nice than the neighbors. Minimal dandelions at this ponit and not sure if I want to use that dandelion weed and feed quite yet..think we are at pick dandelion season?
