Genoa got one of those victories tonight that may not be terribly artistic nor would it qualify as necessarily a good exhibition of high school basketball, but sometimes a win is a win and is always better than a loss. It's getting close to tournament time and the Comets need to win a few to get in the right frame of mind for bigger things.Their Tournament Trail may well end up being short this season, but you still get to play the games.

Elmwood over Woodmore 74-61

Shorty Tyson with 22, Reid Rothenbuhler 14, Jack Waldock TJ Waldock and Jay Hannah with 9 each.
Garver with 21, Avers and Weirich with 10 each for Woodmore.

The Royals shot much better making 26 of 48 shots and 18 of 22 FTs.

Genoa looked terrible against G-Burg. Bassitt took about every shot he possibly could and it was obvious his teammates were getting upset and it almost cost them the game. I was so furious because Matt is terrific at creating offense and driving to the bucket but last night he just threw tons of shots at the hoop and Wonnell in foul trouble doesn't help either. This team needs to wake up or it'll be an early exit

When a post like this happens, we need statistics. What was Bassitt's number of field goal attempts and how many did he make?

Did Otsego lose to Liberty Center last night? I got a score by text message that they lost 44-25. I find this very hard to believe. LC is 4-14 and the Otsego team I saw tuesday looked like world beaters.

Find it ironic how Coach O goes on record in the papers saying that Matt was really good for us but you say that he almost lost the game for them!?!?
Like Hookshot said, statistics?

I am curious to see the statistics of that game too, and not just Bassitt. There were a lot of turnovers, a lot of missed shots, and Bassitt and Wonnell lead the team in assists that game with 2. Gibsonburg outrebounded Genoa 32-23, even though their post players were barely over 6', Genoa went 11-24 from the stripe, to Gibsonburg's 4 of 5. Lee Renner didn't make a shot until 1:12 left in the game. It was definately one of those unique games to watch.

Expanding on what classyposter was saying, Bassitt would on several occasions get the ball, take it the legnth of the court, drive into Gibsonburg's zone, and take a shot. Now I would love to preach team unity and being selfless, but in reality it didn't bother me too much. If you look at Genoa, they really have only three consistent scorers on the team, and with one of them on the bench with 4 fouls you might as well take it straight down and see what happens. Gibsonburg packed the zone all night, making it very difficult for the guards to get Wonnell or Lester the ball anyway, so in this unique case it seemed ok to me for Bassitt to do what he did. He did take and miss a lot of shots, but he also drew a lot of fouls.

Tonight Clyde beat Genoa by 1. Dont know much of the details. However, I heard that a kid jumped into Richard while Richard was playing great defense and the ref called a foul with .6 seconds left and clyde made 1 of 2 free throws to win. Yet again a ref ruining high school basketball..... YAY!

It seems that basketball is a distraction until the gyms can be used for spring baseball practice at many schools in the SLL.

Wonnel getting the Vandersluis treatment eh? I hate it when the ref's alter the way they call a game simply because a kid is tall. I remember watching Sluis play and he'd get 2-3 fouls a game simply for being 7 foot tall.

This was the way it was described to me.....correct it if it is wrong! Clyde recieved the ball and passed it to a kid that was about 5'7'' (Richards 6'8'') by the baseline about 10 feet away from the basket. Richard was right on him with his hands straight up and richard was even leaning backwards trying not to foul while the kid jumped into Richards body and threw the ball into his armpit. They called a foul with .6 seconds left and thats how clyde won! Baseball season yet?

^^^ Your half right. It was not a foul on Richard. But horrible defense by the person guarding the Clyde kid led to him even getting to Richard. That should not have happened either.

I think the SLL will be very lucky to see a team make it to Districts

Genoa 71
Lake 46

Genoa finishes the regular season 13-7. Lake's coach mentioned in the Press that they have Genoa "figured out" and yet they have not beaten Genoa since 1/20/2006. Well they get another chance Tuesday in the first round of the playoffs to figure Genoa out. Maybe the 10th time is the charm.

It must have been a barn burner! I still like the way those guys from Otsego battle. Congratulations to Eastwood for doing what they were favored to do from the start. It's not easy to carry that number one ranking the whole season and win the Championship. Well done.

Tonight Bassitt scored 17 points which put him into first place in the final standings for the league scoring by my calculations. Matt received second team All SLL...has the leagues leading scorer ever not received 1st team in the history of the league?

Elmwood over Gburg 67-51
Tyson with 19. M Huettner, J Waldock, and J Hannah with 9, and TJ Waldock with 8.

Forgot to mention the Elmwood JV won another league title going 12-0 in the SLL. With 3 starters back next year (Waldock twins and Jay Hannah) and a very good group coming up fron the JV, it should be a fun year.

Ruch from Eastwood recieved 1st team instead of Matt and Matt I will bet my life has better stats across the board besides maybe rebounds... its individual awards not team awards but oh well! I dont even care because Matt doesnt....in the words of Matt...people forget awards its a title or nothing!

You are correct, when people look back at this season, they will remember Eastwood won the SLL. Not so much who got individual honors. But anyway, just because I'm curious, I have Rolf and Wonnell first team posts, and Ruch and Weisenborn first team guards. I'm sure someone from Elmwood made 1st team, can anyone help me out here with the last two spots?
