Taking the wife to Niagara Falls in April. Her passport still has her maiden name from before we were married. Anyone know if there's a way to avoid the $100 fee to get her name change? Can we take her current passport along with our marriage license? Just curious if anyone's gone through it before.

Yes just bring the marriage license. I've done this twice with my wife.

Place a call to our neighbors up north. Would suck to make that drive and then be forced to stay on the U.S. side of the falls. The Canadian side is definitely better.

My wife has her maiden name on her passport. We were able to go to Mexico for our honeymoon, a cruise to the Caribbean last year, and are taking a trip to Punta Cana in a few months and have never had an issue.

Just curious...why would you think it was going to be an issue? Do they ask for more than one form of ID when you cross into Canada? I thought usually the passport is all they need to see. And at that point, it doesn't matter if it's her maiden name or not.

Well I made the mistake of calling our local government passport people and they told me she had to get it updated and it'd cost $100 plus another $80 to expedite it. Me think they want all the money they can get. (Government being greedy?!?!? Nooooooooooooooooooo)

Ha they would probably accept a drivers license in all honesty. It's getting back into the US that is usually the real hassle

But again, every time I've come back through customs, they ask to see my boarding pass and my passport. I haven't driven into/out of Canada since I was a kid. But I can't imagine them asking for more than a passport on the way back in. So it wouldn't matter what the name was on there.
