No shit. When I started dropping weight, I think there were four big things I did. The first two were kinda common sense (exercise more, stop eating a lot shortly before bed). The other two were: only eat out on occasion, as opposed to 3-5 times a week AND when eating out, be a bit smarter about things. No sides and go for the less-bready options (flatbread if I went to Subway, burrito bowl instead of straight burrito at Chipotle; cut out the pop; no fries and so on).

It's about a necessity. If you want to keep your meal intake at or below 500c, you have to think a bit when you eat out.

Add in lack of exercise to that link, and spot on.

I have lost about 25 lbs since last May. I have lost a lot more fat than 25 lbs as I have put on a bunch of muscle too.

All I changed is during lunch at work, instead of going out to eat fast food, I go to the gym and lift weights (lift 3 days a week, run 2-3 times a week). Oh, I almost eliminated pop too, that is HUGE. Empty calories in a drink.

Eating out and pop is where most Americans get their calories, that is a fact unfortunately.

Soda is the fucking killer.

I axed that stuff in my late teens, thankfully.

I've been slowly trying cut back on soda. But, being on the road so much, eating out is impossible to quit. I usually try to just order the healthiest thing I can find.

Beer doesn't help, either. What most people drink in soda, I drink in beer.

That was my big thing. Cutting out pop was tough as hell for me. I didn't realize how much I drank.

I limit myself to just 1,000 calaries a day now, so I really don't have the option of eating out anymore. But I have dropped 70 pounds since July because of it.

I was able to easily cut it out for me at home, then I realized how much I had of it at lunches/dinners for work.

I havent gone cold turkey, but I drink 1/5 of what I used to drink. Hoping to be like 1/10, which would be a few 12oz cans a week.

This. A lady I work with always gets on me for drinking pop because she doesn't. Then I remind her that although she doesn't drink pop, she does get hammered quite frequently on alcohol.

lol, you're acting like they are the same. They aren't.

Look at the sugar content in a 12oz can of soda compared to beer.

And no I'm not saying beer is better for you than soda, just not a legit comparison.

After a 16 hour fast, I can eat 2000 in a meal without any issues. Granted, it's clean food and I exercise 6-7 days per week. As Auto should know, wiping out a 1200 calorie LeanGains cheesecake in one sitting is usually not an issue. ;)

How many calories are in a box of hamburger helper with a pound of venison? I eat that a couple nights per week. I bet it's around 2000.

I still can't give up soda but I haven't had a non-diet soda in years. I know it's poison and terrible for me. But consuming no calories with my drinks (with beer being the exception) helps keep the total intake down.

Good article I guess, but I feel most people understand that fast food is pretty horrible in every way. Also, using calories as a basis of how "healthy" something is, is not great logic. A 600 calorie breakfast smoothie with almond milk, protein powder, 1/2 banana, frozen berries, chia seeds, flax, etc. is not equal to 600 calories of egg Mcmuffin and hash brown. As they say, don't count calories, make calories count. If people looked at food more like fuel/medicine, instead of rewards/convenience health would be much better.

All that said, I ate four pieces of Pizza last night, ugh.

Laziness due to technology. Computers, smart phones, video games, etc.

The fast paced lifestyle. Before, mom would be a stay at home mom, prepare dinner every night and everyone would sit at the table and eat. Now mom and dad both have to work 8 to 12 hours a day so its easiest just to drive thru ur local fast food joint.

Europe, as I'm sure you know, is so fucking laid back. They are out of there by damn near 3pm. Plenty of time for both parents to help with dinner lol.

I drink very little soda (1-2 cans per week), and when I do, I try to make it a Diet Dr. Pepper or Cherry Coke Zero. I eat around 1200-1350 calories/day, depending on whether or not I work out. I count macros, though. It's actually kind of fun to figure out what I can eat on certain days to hit my goals. I have lost 15ish pounds and lots of inches since mid-October. Still a lot of progress to make, but I like the program I am on now. I know it will take a while, but oh well.

Same here. It doesn't help when there is generally a not-empty keg in the office but I've decided to cut out drinking during the week to help the waistline a little bit.
