So, the company I work for got bought by a bigger fish last Friday. Everyone's kind of freaking out (even though we are all keeping our jobs). I've been through this once before with a different company. Not a very enjoyable time, but it made me think of these lyrics:

So now that the old company completed the merger, they decided that they didn't need to pay me for my commissions to close out the year. They shorted me $2200 from my last paycheck, and I'm supposed to have another paycheck of over $6000 that I'm starting to question whether or not I'll receive it... Pretty sure they are legally obligated to pay me according to the agreement in my contract...

It is illegal to not pay a worker for time worked. I would send a semi-formal email to the company outlining the situation and if they refuse I'd contact a lawyer.

This is the plan... Next pay day is the 31, and if I don't have my money by then, there's going to be a real issue. If it was a hundred dollars or so, I wouldn't care that much, but we're talking about $8500 collectively, and that's horse crap. If it gets to that point, I might sue for more considering they're preventing me from having those funds available for the holidays. It's caused quite a bit of stress in my household...

Depends on the state but typically you request a punitive value of 3x the outstanding balance. So in your case, the amount you would be entitled should you win your case would be $25,500.

I once worked at a place that was 11+ months behind on bonus pay. When they were that far behind I sent a letter to the owner and he was not aware and found out the reason why...the lady who sent in the request for the $$$ just didnt do it because it looked bad that her's was so far less than mine. He was going to fire her, but she had some sort of disability and thought it would look bad.

So I left the company. It has since changed hands and the new owners wiped the slate clean and got rid of everyone who was there. They did reach out to me to come back but gave them the big ole F-U

I would have sued for the money.

The good news is, I have connections with several vicious attorney's that I'm sure would love nothing more than getting in the spotlight in a slam dunk case against a large organization. That's always a positive lol

Then when the new calender year rolled around, took all my vacation time in january, came back and put my 2 weeks notice in as a nice lil F-U.

All attorneys are vicious. They are intelligent people but they are the worst.

Well, looks like I may need an attorney. After another pay period, they still owe me the other half of my commission from the December 15 pay period. I received my full commission for this period, but nothing more. I believe my final commission pay will be January 15, but I just don't see them paying me what I'm owed for that period and what they still owe me from the 15. It's not just me, either. They owe everyone in our office from the 15th still.

After being advised by two different attorneys on the appropriate steps to take, I mailed a formal letter with signature confirmation requesting payment of what I'm owed. Should they decide against paying me what I'm owed, the next step would be take them to small claims court, in which they would have to send a representative to be at the hearing. I'm hoping they'd rather just settle than go through the trouble of all this...

Was wondering the same thing.

Just tell S&L that he owes you money or you'll beat him up. He'd pay it, or at least his parents would.

Everything I've discussed has been in generalities. I've revealed no details whatsoever. And I simply confirmed pretty much that sleeper's advice in how to approach it was correct.

Nothing I've posted has provided any information really, other than the fact that my previous employer owes me money, and that I'm going to take legal action against them lol.
