Sleeper agrees about Notre Dame and wanting to be rewarded for close losses.
Explain this:

Flag not thrown = ND #2
Flag is thrown = ND #10

Their play would have been good enough to be #2 if the flag was never thrown. The whole thing is BS. Why do people have such a hard time understanding how inflated preseason rankings make it (always) so these rankings are what they currently are?

ND has beat 5-3 Stanford.
TCU has beat Oklahoma.
Kansas State has beaten Oklahoma.
Michigan State has beaten Nebraska.
Alabama has beaten WVU.
Oregon beat MSU.
Ole Miss beat Bama.
Auburn has beaten K State.

Notre Dame is right where they should be in my eyes. They have the weakest best win out of any team in the top 10.

Bc of inflated preseason rankings, that carry the weight the rest of the season as they beat up on each other. That's pretty much it, for me.

I think the sec 100% gets too much credit. Msu barely beats a bad UK team and they're still considered the overall number 1. They don't get any flack at all?? No because UK is in the sec and is "improving". So does a win over Minnesota get the same recognition since they're "improving"?

The biggest problem is the preseason poll in my opinion. The sec gets alllll these teams in the top 15. Then teams not in it beats teams in it and they go flying up the chart. South Carolina was a top 10 preseason team, why?? What'd they return that said they should be top 10?
Polls shouldn't come out until say week 3 or 4. And make these power conference teams play better non conference schedules or tell them it's going to hurt them.

Well technically this is a totally different poll than anything we have seen all season and this is week 9 or whatever.

But there is NO WAY they didn't look at the polls. They have too. No way those 12 people are watching all these teams play. Not possible.

If they aren't looking at the other polls...then how are the able to say that 1 team's strength of schedule is harder than another's? They are absolutely looking at the polls to determine who has the "better wins" and who has the "worse losses." Like it or not, the polls play just as much of a role as they did before.

Don't care too much about the SEC....but FSU 8 spots above ND is asinine.

Gonna consider the best win....should also look at how/who they lost. ND's loss was way more impressive than Michigan State's for example.

Stanford, Oklahoma, WVU....not much difference to me.

Buckeye honk is coming completely unhinged over these rankings.

Someone on 11 warriors mentioned something about not having won a game of consequence in over 4 years and they were almost burned at the stake.

These rankings are a direct slap in the face to the Big 10. We are the worst of the power 5 conferences, and until we differentiate ourselves from being a souped up version of the MAC that is not going to change.

Frankly that #16 ranking for OSU is probably about right. That loss to a mediocre VT team in The Shoe coupled to a lack luster performance in prime time against an average Penn State team is the difference.

OSU will need to pummel every team including Michigan State from here on out to get any love from the ranking committee. And even then they need Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and others to lose at least one more game each to even get a "maybe" consideration.

Face it boys, set the sights a little lower to a B1G championship and a Fiesta Bowl appearance and call that a successful season.

I have no issue with osu at 16. They have no good wins and a bad loss. There will always be fans in a fan base though that won't see it that way.

the_system;1668223 wrote:How do we know how strong the SEC is? Here is a list of non-conference games for the 3 SEC teams in the top 4:

Southern Miss
UAB
South Alabama
UT Martin
San Jose State
Louisiana Tech
Samford
Kansas State
Boise State
LA-Lafayette
Memphis
Presbyterian

Outside of a 6 point win against Kansas State nothing else tells us anything about how strong the SEC is.
Take the whole conference combined and then match their OOC wins against any other league. It's not even close. Everything else aside, including the bias in the media, polls, etc...they STILL run away with the best OOC resumes.

WINS
Georgia - #21 Clemson (6-2), Georgia Tech (6-2)
Missouri - UCF (5-2)
Kentucky - #25 Louisville (6-2)
Florida - #2 Florida State (7-0)
South Carolina - #18 East Carolina (6-1), #21 Clemson (6-2)
Mississippi - Boise State (6-2)
Alabama - #22 West Virginia (6-2)
Auburn - #11 Kansas State (6-1)
LSU - Wisconsin (6-2)

LOSSES
Tennessee - #20 Oklahoma (6-2)
Missouri - Indiana (3-4)
Vanderbilt - Temple (4-3)

The bolded games are wins. The italicized games are losses. The others are yet to be played. Can any other conference even come close to this? There are only 3 losses all year by SEC teams against non SEC teams. 2 of those 3 losses are by teams who are winless in the conference.

The Big Ten, on the contrary...

LOSSES
Michigan State (Oregon)
Ohio State (Virginia Tech)
Maryland (West Virginia)
Michigan (Notre Dame, Utah)
Indiana (Bowling Green)
Minnesota (TCU)
Iowa (Iowa State)
Wisconsin (LSU)
Northwestern (California)
Purdue (Central Michigan, Notre Dame)
Illinois (Washington)

Big Ten wins against the other big 5 conferences are limited to Syracuse (Maryland), UCF (Penn State), Washington State (Rutgers), Missouri (Indiana), Miami (Nebraska). 2, possibly 3 of those teams will be even bowl eligible.

How does Ole Miss stay in the top four after losing to a two loss Lsu? Like Chris Carter said, "Its hard to compete with teams when they lose they only drop a few spots when you lose you drop 15." Had that been Osu ranked 24th and Msu ranked 2nd Msu would have dropped to 15 and Osu would have moved up to 22.

Yes, because LSU SUCKS. They are only 7-2 with losses to #1 and #3.

I do agree, Ole Miss should probably be around 6 to 9. However, if these rankings are anything what we will see going forward, head to head wins WILL matter most. That means Oregon over MSU, FSU over Notre Dame, Ole Miss over Bama, etc...all may influence the rankings regardless of how those teams look on a week to week basis.

If this holds suit, Ole Miss could win out and squeak by every win. Alabama could blow everyone else out, and may still find themselves behind Ole Miss because of that loss.

The committee chairman is the athletic director at Arkansas. Now why would anyone question 3 out of 4 playoff teams are from the SEC? Notre Dame at 10 is a pathetic joke...they should be in at this point. as for the Big 10. they suck and totally deserve their lack of rank.

But the biggest travesty of justice is the anointing the SEC as a pro team conference.

Any complaints about rankings that come out before November are a waste of effort. November is too chaotic to waste your time concerned about where someone is ranked.

I understand the whole "waste of effort" comment. I think most people do. Most people understand that there is a tremendous amount of football and changes that are yet on the horizon. What pisses people off so much is: THREE FUCKING SEC TEAMS IN THE PLAYOFF? I mean... come on. The ONLY reason FSU is in there is b/c they are the undefeated returning champs. They lose to ND, and you can guarantee the fact that they are returning champs means absolutely nothing, and the THREE SEC teams would still be in there. I can only wonder... if FSU and ND both had one loss... would Oregon be the 4th (don't give me the "they're currently 5th BS"), or would it be Alabama, to round off a 4 team SEC playoff?
