Anyone else get "no service" error? I am on my second Droid and I still get it. I notice it after I take it off the multimedia dock. Just deleted a few apps hoping that will work. The lady at the Verizon store said she never heard of that problem and a google search netted nothing either, but this is my second phone and I still have the problem. Like I said it seems to happen after I take it off the dock.

Just got my droid Saturday. Love it so far..just downloaded a few games: bebbled, word search, and paper toss preview.

I also have the usa today app, live scores, pandora, and backgrounds. Looking forward to the update, especially if it comes with more more home screens.

I think it was Zedge that was causing the constant crashing...so far I have been slowly adding apps back and having no problems, only one left is Zedge and I will be looking elsewhere now for ringtones.

Glory, it was explained to me that it might not be with Zedge but could have been Zedge not getting along with the other ones...I dont know every since I did a hard reset and not put it back on it hasnt crashed.

Latest home replacement I'm playing with is Sweethomes2 beta.

It's definitely labor intensive to set-up, but it is seriously powerful. I'm going to a button/menu driven approach and just one home screen (that happens to launch about 20 other screens with 1 or 2 button clicks).

Other than the programming of it being a bit finicky, seems to play well with the rooted mod I'm running.

If for no other reason, check it out. You can download home themes with this that other people have done to see what the capabilities are. You'd have to download the apk from the website and "install 3rd party apps" to load, however- SH2 beta is not on the market.

Yeah, I gave in. Turns out I actually get superior battery life (like 20-30% more) thanks to underclocking when idle.

Plus, the voice-to-text is fantastic for SMS and short emails. LOL, maybe stock did that. Never found that feature before rooting.

Those are the two biggest reasons to root. That, and wireless tether is nice in a pinch for traveling (but I think there is a market app to do that for unrooted). 2.1 in general appears to be faster and more stable than 2.0.1, so you can just wait out when VZW takes it's sweet time getting around to updating you.

yeah i have no issues with my phone stock(and i am not smart enough to keep up with all that stuff, or troubleshoot it if programs dont work right). i wouldnt use it for tethering(yeah i think there is a paid app for that on stock, PDAnet or something). i think 2.1 will have voice to text or there is an app now for that, i cant remember which.

Bringing this back up....

Anyone download 2.1 yet? I updated my phone this past weekend, and I've noticed that my Driod doesn't run as smoothly as before. I noticed the lag when scrolling through my apps folder, and when surfing the web on Verizon's network. I google'd the problem and it appears that I'm not the only one who was experiencing slow response on the Droid. Voice search, and talk to text is a nice touch.

I did downloan Handcent SMS, which is freakin' awesome by the way. There are a ton of different customization features that you can do with this app. I'm really enjoying it. I had to disable the native messaging app so now I don't get two text messages anymore, just one via handcent. My SMS interface looks like the iPhone interface right now. I've always loved how the iPhone's SMS is laid out. I like the fact that Handcent lets you pick between four different SMS interfaces.

I also downloaded Trapster, and a few Live Wallpapers. I downloaded WeatherBug (which runs in the background)...it's great because it displays the current temp in my area on my notificatin bar. However the actual app uses GPS, so I don't open the app that often.

I downloaded Google Goggles, but rarely use it. The few times I did it worked great. Seems to work better with logos than random objects. ShopSavvy is better IMO.

2.1 supposedly lets me link up my yahoomail, but I haven't done that yet. And does anyone know how to set up the Facebook app to send me notifications when someone comments on my page/wall/status/pictures? I get them when I get a friend request or event invitations...but I'd much rather get notifications when someone actually comments on something of mine

i havent noticed any lag problems since getting 2.1. i also dont use live wallpaper though either so maybe that adds to it. i like the weather channel app/widget the best. i tried weatherbug and the built in app but the 10 day forecasts dont have as much information compared to weather channel's. i dont use yahoo so i cant help you there. i also dont use the facebook app, but i do get notifications sent to my email account from facebook which i read on my phone so there is no point in having the facebook app for me.

Also have the 2.1 update...with live wallpaper. I haven't noticed any difference. Although I did see on the droid forums where others were as well.

As for the answer to your questions, not quite sure. Check out droidforums.net. I'm sure they have something about it there. If not, someone can help you with it.

You have to be rooted :D

Not sure, but you MIGHT be able to do it with one of the better file managers...maybe try with Astro of Xscope Lite. Can't necessarily delete, but I think some people renamed the .apk extension to hide it from their apps drawer. If it's possible without rooting, I'm sure you can find the answer on the Droid forum.

I just got my Motorola H17txt headset today from corporate and downloaded MotoSpeak. It's a free app that works with the H17txt headset and will actually speak your texts to you through the bluetooth. I've been playing around with it for the past few hours and it's really cool.

If you own a Droid...go download NFL Mobile right now!

Verizon recently inked a deal with the NFL and now offers NFL Mobile. It's a free app (for now) that offers live coverage and news about the NFL, in addition to allowing live streaming access to the NFL Network 24/7. They are also going to show the draft live, and this season will show all the NFL Network Thursday Night games and all the NBC Sunday night games live on the phone.

I was playing with the app yesterday...and the video from the NFL Network is crystal clear and absolutely awesome!
