His warrant was for failure to appear(most likely a traffic offense), not an offense another county would arrest for

whether he did it on purpose or not, I guess my question is what is the benefit of making that up? he is not going to be able to arrest him once they figure out who he really is. assume that "he thinks" its this other guy with the warrant. he asked the guy in the car for his ID. he hands over his ID or gives him his name and DOB. end of story. from my understanding the cops didn't escalate things until the guy reached into his backpack without being told. i know when I learned how to drive, I was told when you get pulled over, you keep your hands on the wheel or in sight, turn the radio off, and don't reach into the glove box etc until you ask or are told to.

He mostly likely referenced Stockett's name because that's who the registration of the car came back to. Since a male was obviously not driving, he's not going to just assume Stockett is the passenger until he is ID'd. Which didn't happen because Stockett decided to take the hard ass route.

And if you refuse, are they supposed to just say "ok, have a nice day. carry on"? The guy acted guilty as hell by doing what he did, which just compounded the situation.

Show your ID, they see that it's not the person with warrants, and they'll move on.
These!

There was one EASY way deescalate this situation, and that would have been simply PROVIDING HIS ID. The officers erringly thought he was someone who had outstanding warrants, but had this guy just simply provided his ID calmly - instead of getting all 'you're violating my rights' b.s. - then the officer could have easily ran his check and the couple could have probably been on their way in 5 minutes.

So yes... I blame the guy taking the video.

Best thing about Sandusky is Cedar Point
