So, I was in Vegas this past weekend for my bachelor party (ridiculously good time, btw). The hotel seems to have "misplaced", as they call it, my friend's luggage. We checked out of our hotel on Sunday, my friends' flights were later in the day so they left their bags with the concierge while they went and hung out by the pool. By my friend's account, they left three bags, all under the same name, and when they returned only two bags were there. Of course the most expensive piece of luggage went missing. It wasn't behind the desk, or in the room where the hotel keeps the bags, or in our actual hotel room. The hotel offered him a free ride to the hotel and one free night's stay in the future. I told him to tell them to shove it, and go file a claim with their insurance company for reimbursement (we're talking $2k+ worth of stuff). He doesn't think it'll work, and he's freaking out because he had his tablet in the bag which pretty much has his entire work life on it.

I told him to also pursue any reasonable legal action and make sure someone follows up with the report. His only problem is that he left Vegas before going to a police station to file a complaint. Has anyone ever had their bags stolen like this? What was your resolution? Was it a free night stay? Full reimbursement of your stay? A check for the cost of your luggage? Or just a "Well, good luck buddy!"

Never leave the area where the accident or crime was committed. CALL THE COPS THEY WILL COME TO YOU (they have cop cars) AND A REPORT WILL BE ON FILE AND QUESTION WILL BE ASK AT THE SCENCE.
It this item was so important then why didn't he call the police ASAP?

If something is as important as a computer for his work keeping it in a saver place than in suit case under the counter is not responsible thought process. Here’s an idea, putting it in the hotel safety box or a lock boxes in the lobby.
Bottom line here is IT’S GONE never to be returned.
Their legal team and insurance is bigger that his .. he will lose.

^my friend runs a start up. His life is basically his work haha. But I agree with not leaving the scene, however in this case American Airlines couldn't care less that his bag was gone and they were going to charge him $950 for a new plane ticket and change fees. So he left. And it's not like the bag was left in the open, it was placed in a room with other bags. Fairly common practice. My guess is someone from the hotel either gave his bag to someone else, or some hotel staffer pilfered it.

It'll probably be on Pawn Stars next month.

If all three bags were gone, they probably misplaced it or gave it to someone else by mistake. But if only one is missing, and it's the bag with the most valuables in it, that's some fishy shit.

I know this isn't the information you want to hear (and I'm sorry), but let this be a lesson to your friend (& anyone else), if something is THAT important to you (e.g., "life's work"), then NEVER trust it without anyone other than yourself. Yeah, I know the hotel is a business and technically it became their responsibility yadda yadda yadda... but in the end, YOU are ultimately responsible for your own things (whether legally or not).

There's no question I would be furious & livid myself... but I put myself in that situation and while I might have left a luggage with a bunch of valuable clothing in it, I'm pretty sure I would have never left my bookbag which carries my computer, wallet, tablet, phones, etc. I know a bookbag is easier to carry than a suitcase (hence apples to oranges&#8203, but the lesson is... I would NEVER leave my "valuables" in the possession of someone else to 'watch'.

Never should have left without filing a report. However, that kind of shit happens all the time in large cities and the police do not have the time to mess around trying to find someone's bag when it is pretty much "he said, she said" Too many shady people employed by these big hotels. That bag is gone, but someone is enjoying that tablet right now! Be smarter next time when traveling!!

I wonder how much heroin whoever stole it got for the tablet.

Yes he can track it. But it has to be turned on first. Whoever has it hasn't turned it on yet. Which leads to me believe that it's actually NOT stolen, just still in that hotel somewhere.


My buddy got a call from the hotel today. They found the bag. Apparently, the concierge misplaced it. They say all contents are still in the bag, and they offered him a discount for a future stay. All's well that ends well I guess.
