The spread of the Ebola virus is running amok in West Africa over the past 3 weeks and the idiots in Washington are still allowing planes to enter the US from this human Petrie dish. Planes from Europe (particularly France) also regularly come and go out of the 4 countries on the west central coast of Africa. It is unconscionable to me the WHO is not shutting Africa down until this is under control. And maybe it won't be...that might take care of a lot of problems if Africa was just wiped clean.

Lol. Get a fucking clue next time. There are articles on NBC News and USA Today from today where numerous doctors and researchers from CDC firmly deny this is ever going to become a problem in the USA. The Ebola virus is spread through direct transmission. You'd have to go find someone actively infected and practically drink their blood. It's not airborne, meaning you have a better chance of catching the flu than this. The only reason it's so prevalent in Africa because they're poor with little or no concept of hygiene and infection control. Did you know the Ebola outbreak actually started in March, but yet infection/death is still only happening in Africa? Not America, or Canada, or Europe, or China, or anywhere else has the capabilities of something as simple as washing their hands regularly. It's too bad, because this is something that should/could be easily preventable from spreading.
Ebola has spread in Africa partly because of religious customs, in which family members wash the bodies of deceased relatives to prepare them for burial.
The virus also has spread to health care workers in Africa, where six or seven patients may share a single hospital room. Hospitals in developing countries also may lack certain infection-control measures — such as special containers to dispose of syringes — that are standard in U.S. facilities,
That quote backs up everything I just said.

tl;dr: Shut the fuck up. You're an idiot, as usual. Stick to arguing with salto in the basement.

What would be their goal? In a world of page hits and viewerships, what would major media have to gain from reducing panic in this situation?

WHO is calling this the worst Ebola outbreak in known history and labels it an "Extremely Critical" situation in West Central Africa.

...still hoping for a Nigerian visitor to stop in Lowry.

And I've provided a lot of reasoning and logic why it'll never be a problem here or anywhere with modernized medicine. Still waiting for you to defend your stance with the same. Oh wait, you can't. Because you're an idiot. Instead we get "I saw Ebola was happening in Africa when is the government going to shut down the airplanes from there!!" /Tiernan

Also, I'm not from a town named Lowry. So you're wrong about that, too. An entire thread where you were completely wrong and made yourself look like a bigger dumbass. In other news, the sun will set later tonight.

A lot of butt hurt coming thru in that tirade Lowry. Is it because no matter what I always kinda end up looking smarter than whoever is challenging me? I know it can be frustrating going up against somebody of my stature in life.

It's not really a risk. In fact it's arguably safer for the US to make sure patients are receiving proper quarantining and care. It spreads through bodily fluids entering the blood stream. It's spreading in Africa because their hospitals are shit and reuse needles and other medical equipment.

Basically, unless you're engaging in edge play with an Ebola patient, you'll be fine.

You & Lowry do know the guy who says "...it can't happen here." is always the first to die in pandemic movies...right?

Don't worry about me. Unlike you, I understand how disease transmission works.

If they know he/she is infected and can take the proper precautions, it's really not that big of a risk. They probably aren't going to receive the care needed to recover in Africa, so this is essentially saving their life.

As Helloagain alluded to, the culture and incapabilities of Africa is what's allowing Ebola to thrive. It wouldn't and hasn't happened anywhere else besides Africa and the first case was reported back in March.

During his presser today it sounded like Barry was gonna take credit for finding an Ebola vaccine too. Guy was on fire today. Almost had this kinda "I've been day drinking" vibe going on about him.

Virus mutation concerns generally have to do with developed resistance to existing treatment, but that isn't applicable with Ebola. So I'm guessing you're concerned about there being a shift in transmission? Not following your logic here...
