I don't see as many goldens as I used to either. But I still see them a ton. It just used to be you either had a lab or a golden.Laley23;1638017 wrote:For the record, I was joking.

This is no shit, probably half of the dogs in our neighborhood are goldens and labs. Likely another 20% are hounds....jacks, beagles and random hounds. i have no idea where anyone has to live to not see these dogs.

I don't think so. Because you see white trash where crime isn't rampant with Pits. I think it's an image thing. Trashy dudes want to act tough, and Pits are tough dogs. It's the image they want for themselves.Laley23;1638013 wrote:My guess? They live in places where crime is rampant (unlike suburbs), so they get a dog to protect them/their belongings.

To answer Pick6's question, the obsession is about social status and having a large and powerful animal makes up for the lack of status. It doesn't matter if it is the inner city or the redneck territory, these dogs are exploited and not cared for. It isn't a shock that an animal bred to be incredibly protective causes the highest percentage of incidents. Factor in general American ignorance (as evidenced by some of the comments here) about breeding and this isn't surprising. A pit bull takes a lot of work to train.

when you check the list at the dog bite site, it is obvious pits are by far the most dangerous dogs. They are the ones most likely by far to kill and their favorite prey is small children. People can select from so many other type of dog, why does anyone need to have a pit bull.

Why would you assume it's a need as opposed to a want? Why people choose to have this breed has been speculated on by several posters. I haven't seen anyone suggest that it was a need. What makes you think people who own them need to?isadore;1638369 wrote:... People can select from so many other type of dog, why does anyone need to have a pit bull.

Me either. I couldn't understand why you asked why someone needs such a dog. I only asked for your clarification.isadore;1638889 wrote:how completely pedantic of you. And I don't think anyone should need or want to own a pit bull.
I agree that people shouldn't need such a dog but why would you assume that they do need one?
