I would love any liberal to defend this quote from the POTUS.
America is a great land – filled to the brim with freedom loving Americans of different races and creeds. So shouldn’t every American have the chance to celebrate what they wish, as they wish? Look back into history and ask yourselves whether a revolution and our nation’s independence was good for minorities. Great Britain may not have been completely correct in their views, but they had many things right, including abolishing slavery decades before the United States.

Why then on the Fourth of July should American Muslims celebrate an obvious split from God’s will? Sadly, we’ve grown up being told to fear government as a sinister, tyrannical enemy. Ignore those voices. Government is a beacon of good in the world, something your family and friends cannot do without. If the power of government is limited, how will this great nation continue to prosper?”

Is this another attempt at last year's failed "Obama hates the 4th of July" chain email?

Could be. But daileak isn't the same as a chain email. If if is I will gladly delete. But I did check snopes first and only found the same one you did.

So you saw that last year's was a fake, but you believed the one exactly a year later was real despite being the exact same thing with a few details switched around?

This isn't speaking well for your critical thinking ability. I'd delete the evidence if I were you.

Ah, I see you are full of as hominem fail. Feel free to discuss the topic assuming it is true until we find out it is not.

ad hominem*

and there isn't any debate, it's a basic chain email you should have been able to figure out was fake either with a.) basic logic and critical thinking or b.) 10 seconds of research

Autocorrect on my phone turned ad into as. I know the difference. Show me a snopes that shows the new one is a chain email and I will recant my question.

So you believe this is real? I just want to get this on record before you eventually delete the thread.

Despite all the incredibly smug talk by a number of this site's conservatives about how liberals are stupid, naive, etc., it is rather humorous how quickly they fall for anything as long as it fits their personal perspective on how things "are".

Hopefully the OP isn't particularly wealthy, or I see a vast sum of money enriching the GNP of Nigeria in the near future, lol.

Oh, for God's sake (can I even say "God" ?)....considering what passes for truth on Progressive sites you have little room for talk. I wouldn't characterize leftists as "stupid or naive"... Although You could easily think they could use some help in animal behavior considering the policies they advocate. Rather , I think they are deceitful elitists who aren't really 'stupid' as much as willing to employ whatever means to propagate their world view,

Is this story false or am I missing something?

And please hold the "well last years was false so this one must be too" response.

I have yet to receive a blatantly false chain email passed off as truth from anyone other than a 40+ year old right winger. Whether that has to do with old people who can't figure out the internet being more likely to be republican, or more to do with conservatives being more likely to fall for these sorts of stories, I don't know.

This has no credibility.
Citation for when and where he said it?

There is no date, no location, or no context.

I just searched online for the quoted text, and normally for the President, other speeches from other new orgs pop up.
Not on this one.

Therefore, it is false, fake.

So, go ahead everyone, get all mad and claim the President is secretly working against the U.S

I'm going with false, even though, to my knowledge (from Saturday night; haven't cared enough to look things up) it hasn't been officially debunked. Part of that is how, with a few phrasing differences, it is close in theme to the SATIRICAL (http://www.thelibertypaper.org/2013/07/02/obama-to-college-students-do-not-celebrate-fourth-of-july/) deal from last year.

Other than that, there's the "rubbing two working brain cells together" factor where by reading it, it comes off more as a right-wing anti-left talking points memo than anything else, where you have a guy giving a speech that wildly goes from telling Muslims to not celebrate July 4 to praising the country we fought to get independence for being smarter in certain ways to horribly segueing into a "praise big government" spiel.

Lol, I'd say I was surprised that one of the guys who is very willing to tell people about how smart he is on certain topics was the one posting it as a real story, but then I remembered Jmog is the dude who never fails to take the bait whenever Sleeper trolls religion and constantly responds completely seriously regardless of how blatantly obvious said trolling is. And some on here say that it's the libs who are academic brains, but real-life dolts. lol.

I think we've all read enough of these in the past 10 years. I remember ones about Bush and now they are about Obama. Regardless of who you support or hate, you are a fool if you think a sitting president would say this. The stupidest jackass of all time would understand that, even if he did believe in these comments, saying them would be tantamount to political suicide. Believing these things if you don't like the supposed author makes you weak in that you greatly underestimate your opponent.

Why did you not gladly delete this thread that was based on an obviously false quote like you said you would?

Why have it deleted? Having a beautiful monument to one man's mindless ignorance is always a wonderful thing!

Show a case where I post this kind of BS consistently and/or show I believe this kind of BS and you would have a point.
