Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, Savage Race, etc.

Anyone running one this summer? I think I saw someone was doing the Warrior Dash recently. I am running the Savage Race in Zanesfield (where?) this Saturday. I haven't participated in one of these races since I did the Tough Mudder in VA back in 2011 when I was in pathetic shape. I am looking forward to seeing what I can do now that I'm not a flabby POS.

Some races give away gift certificates as door prizes. Hopefully you win a gift certificate to Lowes so you can get more Iron fence.

I'm sure I'll do a few this summer now that I have functioning shoulders again. Hopefully I'm done with hospital trips and surgeries. Shit was getting old.

I did the Warrior in Hocking this past weekend. Not a bad result, could have done better, had a good time.
I don't like running more that 6 miles at a time, plus I don't like being electrocuted, so I'll pass on the tough mudder.

Old football knees don't like it. That's why I prefer Triathlons.

Was only playing. My shoulders aren't quite ready for the swimming in a tri but I'd love to do one sometime.

I did the hit and run 5k in columbus last weekend. It was pretty fun but the lines were so log for the obstacles.

Did the Warrior Dash this past weekend near Athens. Was fun, got muddy, burnt and drank some Shocktop. Will probably do another smaller mud run this summer.

I've done a total of 6 Warrior Dashes over the years. I'm not doing any this year. I'm tired of the gimmicky 5K's and their inflated entry fees.

I don't care if that helps.

Serious question (and ted kinda answered it), do people actually challenge themselves for these things. For instance when I'm running a real half marathon, I'm trying to get the best time that I could possibly get even though I'm not a jogger by nature. I feel at these mid events people just go and have a good time without worrying about trying to finish the course in a reasonable time. Also some of the people I know that have done these things are not in the best shape.

Disclaimer: I don't care to go to google.

What are the different distances for all these races?

When I did the tough mudder the mentality was definitely more about team work, rather than everyone going for their best times. People were helping other people over walls, through mud, etc. even when they weren't technically part of your group. They actually emphasized that it was not a race, and it was about teamwork and making sure everyone finished.

I would say 95% of them don't care about their time. There is usually a competitive wave that is the first vave of starters for the day. Those are the people that care. Other than that, it's just to have fun and finish.

The past few times I've run, my knee has fucked up and I've been incapacitated for three or four days.

I probably won't do a race this summer.

Hope this helps.

We always sign up for one of the first two time slots to push ourselves and not have to wait in line to use the rope, etc.

We had one guy finish 11th this weekend in Athens in the competitive wave.

I'll only do it if I find a $35 entry fee, no need to pay $60+.

I want my daughter and I to run (quick walk is a better term) one of this events on my bucket list...
Just when I think I'm ready physical something happens... hurt foot, sprained knee and then my shoulder, kidney injury ...
I'm in good shape now so if all goes well maybe later this summer....

Anywhere from 5k to more than 100k stuff. 5-20kish is the distance of most of the races though.

My favorite one I've done was the Run For Your Lives 5K last year. I ran with two GoPros. The Hero3 was on my head, but it wasn't aligned properly so I couldn't really use any footage. I was holding a Hero2 in my hand it it's a little shaky.
