Funny you say that because I was thinking the same thing.Laley23;1620511 wrote:What has happened to Cody Allen recently?
I thought he might be a good bet to take over the closer role (and do well in it) and he has gone to shit the past few weeks.

bottom line...5 runs in 3 games.
What's wrong with Allen?....nothing. The White Sox put up some tough at bats against him and Shaw which is more to their credit for improving from last year. The ENTIRE division got better while we were treading water. The front office did little to improve this team...merely making moves to replace what we lost thru free agency. Some very positive moves were made for the future of this team in locking up some of our core players.....but that does little for this year.

Not just tonight though. Allen was unhittable, and now has an ERA (along with a few inherited runners) north of 3. Still a great option, but he is way more human than 2 weeks ago. Same thing happened for a stretch last year...HitsRus;1620519 wrote:bottom line...5 runs in 3 games.

he doesn't want to outshine the rest of the team by playing good when they are sucking so bad?Laley23;1620529 wrote:Not just tonight though. it also sucks giving up the game winning hit to the 9 guy who is 0-3

We are 8th in the league in runs scored.
Yet it feels like the offense is always stumbling.
We must have the worst run distribution out there because we have scored 3 runs or less in something like half our games.

...with 2 strikes. But the Chi Sox did that to both Shaw and Allen...falling behind in the count only to foul off some tough pitches and then get a hit or a walk. All the White Sox young hitters...Beckham , Viciedo, Gillespie, Ramirez, Flowers..who were meat last year, are now tough outs.it also sucks giving up the game winning hit to the 9 guy who is 0-3
With the exception of Chisenhall and Brantley....and a modest offensive upgrade in RF (Murphy replacing Stubbs) The rest of the Tribe lineup has underperformed expectations.

Little league baseball at its finest. Gomes clutch 2 out RBI single to force the bottom of ninth. Routine grounder to short and Aviles with plenty of time throws off the wrong foot into the dirt. The first baseman doesn't even come close to scooping a ball that a good high school player will make 19 out of twenty times. Then, on the very next pitch the runner goes and our catcher throws it 10 feet wild over the shortstop's head. This is not major league baseball.

^^^^Well in all fairness, Aviles in not an everyday third baseman and I'm not sure just how experienced Chiz is at first. Gomes's throw to second was rushed because a speedy pinch runner stole 2B on the pitcher.
This was not little league, but a case of a better Major League team beating another. I've come to the conclusion that this team, as currently constructed, is not a very good team.
