Clean all the terminals on the capacitors and the contactor. Did you happen to smell any burned smell?

I took the contactor off last night and blew it off with the air hose, to get all the bugs and spider webs out. I then lightly filed the terminals since they were a bit rusty. The capacitor is new so the terminals are good there.

Did you check the 24v on the contactor?

Yes 24 was fine and the contactor pulls in. I do have an HVAC guy coming next week, but I'm hoping to get it fixed myself if possible.

Sorry cant help you more not sure where you are located I could help more if I could look and check it out. If you find what is buzzing that is usually what the problem is. If the readings are all right I would have to trouble shoot it from that point. You can check the micro farads on the capacitors and make sure they are what the system calls for.

lick your fingers and check for voltage. Make sure you use index fingers on both hands and not 2 fingers on the same hand.

So after all that, it was a loose wire somewhere around the compressor itself. He fixed that and charged the system. $125. Not bad considering I thought I'd be spending lots more.

I wish that's all mine was. I've got a system leak somewhere but R-22 is expensive as fuck (and that would be on top of a leak test and a repair). Just got a quote to replace the damn thing just to see what it would be.
