A Colorado public school that has predominately Arabic students decided to Change God, to Allah in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Hilarity ensues..
Principal Tom Lopez denies any attempt to push an Islamic agenda, saying, “These students love this country. They were not being un-American in trying to do this. They believed they were accentuating the meaning of the words as spoken regularly in English.”
Many of the parents are upset specifically over the fact that the Arabic translation of the Pledge replaces “one nation under God” with “one nation under Allah.”
Some parents have even accused Principal Lopez of “pushing a Muslim Brotherhood agenda — to push Islam into the school.”

When the pledge was written, to which "god" was it referring? The baptist god? The catholic god? Allah?

While I think this is incredibly stupid, I can unfortunately see both sides of this.

The original, written by Francis Bellamy in 1892, did not have "under god" in it.

I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The phrase "under God" was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance June 14, 1954, by a joint resolution of Congress. You can thank a lawyer from Illinois and the KOC for getting that started

This is why all religion should be out of public schools. If you have to referee the content, somebody is always going to get pissed.

Wait until someone want to invoke the name of Satan.

I laugh at their "reasoning" as it just being the Arabic translation when in fact they only changed one word. I can see that reason MAYBE if they said the whole pledge in Arabic, but to only change the one word does send a "message" of some sort.

Now, is this worth being all up in arms about? Probably not, I would just have my kids go to a different school or tell them they should say the pledge the "right way" without changing the words.

Wow - such hurtful, divisive and offensive remarks, made in a public setting no less: they should be fined, banned from the school, and have their assets seized.

Is there a private entity that presides over the school that is having their bylaws violated?

However, had the government not caved in to the Knights of Columbus and inserted shit that doesn't belong in the pledge into it in the first place, this would not be an issue.

In closing, fucking Catholics.

Why don't they say it however they choose, and those of other faiths (or none) can say it the way they choose.

Do I really have to put in the sarcasm disclaimer when it is completely evident?

Yes. Given your general ideology it wouldn't have been too far flung for you to have been serious there.

Even I know it is perfectly ok to slam Catholics and other Christians, but one negative blurb about Muslims or blacks and look out; the leftist, thought police mobs will destroy you.

And? What's the issue?

I've never understood the hypocrisy argument as it extends in this situation with religion. Are Christians being fed to the lions in this country? Is Christianity as an established religious organization on the brink of collapse? Are people taking to the streets in droves to undermine the church's authority?

The only about it is that it's unfair. Yeah, life is unfair. Crying about it on an internet message board with tens of people won't make you feel any better.

I don't know about that. As much random crying about all the multiverse's horrible unfairnesses perpetrated against him and people like him as he does, it must have some sort of therapeutic value. A placebo effect, perhaps, but an effect nonetheless.

God is a general term. Some religions have several. I just ask isn't allah another word for god used by the muslim's?
Incidentally I don't like people changing words around to suit there religions or anything else. Not if favor of this behavior and it's probably only used to incite the atheist crowd.

Then the "atheist crowd" (if they're so damn smart, shouldn't they get the i before e thing correct?) should grow thicker skin. As should those people of any religion when the atheists attempt to incite them.
