So I need to travel to DC for a day and I was looking at flights on Expedia and found something odd. If I fly out of Columbus with a stop in Detroit the round trip flight is 487. if I fly straight from Detroit and just cut out the Columbus leg it is 722!!! This is with setting Detroit as a destination for the return flight in both scenarios.
So my question, can I book the Columbus flight with one stop, and just show up at Detroit to save 250 bucks and never board the Columbus flight? I feel like that is too easy.....

Normally your entire flight is cancelled if you miss the first leg.slingshot4ever;1610312 wrote:So I need to travel to DC for a day and I was looking at flights on Expedia and found something odd. Correct. I had this happen when a sudden work trip overlapped a preplanned trip back to Ohio. I wanted to just use the return leg from Ohio. I called ahead to cancel first leg and told them I was only using the return. Can't do it, said I wouldn't be able to board the return flight.Al Bundy;1610316 wrote:Normally your entire flight is cancelled if you miss the first leg.

Yea you can't do that. They'd cancel on you. It's more expensive because Detroit is more expensive to fly out of (large airport)
One time on our return flight to Hawaii, we went from Columbus to Chicago to La to Oakland TO LA AGAIN, then Hawaii. And they wouldn't let us just stay in LA. Even though they said it was a mistake on their part that we had to do that. I was irate.

Just go to the nearest costume store, dress in military, get free tickets.

If you are flying out of Columbus use Southwest to BWI. It's far cheaper and you can take a bus into the city from there for $60(approximately 20 minute bus ride).slingshot4ever;1610312 wrote:So I need to travel to DC for a day and I was looking at flights on Expedia and found something odd. Point A to point B. Southwest is nowhere near as bad as Spirit, like what the fuck man.Laley23;1610367 wrote:Southwest is a step above Spirit in quality

It was a joke... Durkie and I have been going at it about the military. He either really thinks service members get free plane tickets or was just saying it knowing I'd respond.Wally;1610390 wrote:I'm sure there is a recruiting office near you.

Delta is all class. I'd put United 2nd on your list though, ahead of AA and US.Laley23;1610371 wrote:They are the 2nd worst airline (not counting random ass ones). I didnt mean to say they were JUST ahead of Spirit.

I've also never had a bad experience with SW, so not sure where you get are getting they are a step above Spirit.

Probably should go ahead and start an airline snob thread. SW is a great airline especially for the price.Laley23;1610371 wrote:They are the 2nd worst airline (not counting random ass ones). I didnt mean to say they were JUST ahead of Spirit.

SW is fine as long as you can carry on everything you are bringing.

I was trying to fly to Cleveland once and found flights through Cleveland, ending in New York that were much cheaper than just going to Cleveland. They can't stop you from getting to Cleveland and not taking your next flight. However, if you have a return booked through the same airline they will cancel it.

SW is for poor people.
Virgin and jet blue are the best IMO. Then delta.

Except they are the only airline that offers two free checked bags. I imagine most people that hate on SW have never flown on it. It's a great airline and is THE only airline that actually makes a consistent profit.Sonofanump;1610436 wrote:SW is fine as long as you can carry on everything you are bringing.

I may be in the minority but when I book flights I dont really care who it is with.
Hell, I booked a flight a couple of weeks ago to North Carolina and I would have to look at the itinery to see who it is with. I go with the most convenient for the most part.

SW doesnt even have a real rewards program. They dont have 1st class seating and they dont have assigned seating lol. It is the definition of an airline meant for the lower class of flyers.
Again, if you are just flying to get somewhere it is fine (and I would probably suggest it). But if you are a work traveler or will be making lots of trips to places, no one would ever choose SW. There are no benefits to it outside of cost (which, again, is negligible once you have flown about 10 times on another airline).
