Missed the first part of the post about being independent in football. I'm thinking the drives would be worse because there's no good road to those places and what happens when we get good and they don't want any part of us, plus not getting many points playing teams under you in size ( at least we 'd be competitive). May work in the short term but not a solution in the long run.

Why would we have to be independent in all sports? Could we wiggle out of just football? Heck bring Clear Fork along with us & establish a new MAC type of conference.

I think what we can all see is that the "easy options" if there really are any are not easy and have some serious pitfalls of there own. Being middle of the road in a weaker conference IMO sends the wrong message to these kids. Plus would anybody on here really be happy at 5-5 in a weak conference you still will not make the playoffs and in that conference I would think even at 7-3 you would not be in many years....

Northwest also wants to be in a conference with us. So...Orrville, Loudonville, Clear Fork, Northwest is a start.

The point system adjusts, somewhat. A 5-5 Orrville team in the OCC might end up with about the same number of points as an 8-2 Orrville team in a conference of like-sized teams. However, where the points diminish, the potential to win more games compensates. Thus, an Orrville team that goes 5-5 in the OCC should, perhaps, be able to go 8-2 in a conference of similarly-sized teams.

As such, I really don't think one has to be so particular in that way. The smaller the schools in the league, the easier ... in theory ... it will be to win more games. Winning more games adds more L1 and L2 points to the numerator. Just in smaller increments.

I can't imagine the OCC would allow two teams to leave football but stay in the rest of the sports. Wouldn't make sense from their perspective. They'd only have a six team football conference. It'd be easier on their end to simply replace both schools.

I don't see how the other members of the OCC would even want to have Orrville and/or Clear Fork in the league anymore simply from a size of school standpoint. I can't imagine there being another league in the entire state that has the disparity in the sizes of schools (from D2 all the way to D5).

I think our best option is to begin to form our own league as mentioned before. The decision makers have to be open to anything, not just shoot something down because they think it won't work long-term. Frankly, what we have now is destroying our program and it is going to take even longer to recover if something is not done NOW to fix it!

Another option could be expanding the current OCC and doing "big school/small school" split. That's getting more popular around here. Just a thought.

To be fair, the first-level points don't matter nearly as much as the second-level, so as long as Orrville is winning a few games against bigger schools most years, I don't think it hurts the other schools in the OCC to have them in.

Obviously, the contingency there is that they do win a few games. Now, if we were talking about them scheduling a school in a small-school conference, I'd completely agree with you. But if the average year for Orrville has them beating 3-5 schools that are D2-3, then they still probably bring enough second-level points for teams to not mind having them in the conference, though perhaps Orrville's non-conference schedule weights that one way or the other as well.

Do they have enough schools in the conference to actually do that? Seems like that might have them scrambling for quite a few non-conference games each year.

I only think this is a small piece of the puzzle that is killing the program. Bigger factor you don't have the horses....

Hoping for an injury free game on both sides of the ball. Looks as if at least one DR Pick thinks Orrville will win.

He must be an idiot.

Good Luck in the Playoffs Woo. Why don't you sit your varsity on Saturday to make it more interesting?

Good luck, Orrville. Pulling for you.

You should probably watch less fictional football movies and watch more real games, brother. I saw the Orrville-Clear Fork game and my eyes still burn.

Big picture, there's the continuous run clock in the second half and I'm sure on a short week till the playoff game that Wooster will sit their starters in the second half. So the score won't be anywhere near as bad as last year.

Rest assured that I've watched far more real games and that I wasn't implying that they're the favorite.

However unlikely, if Orrville upsets Wooster, they would spoil the Generals' chances of a home playoff game. Wooster wins, they host. If they lose, they're on the road in week 11. With that said, I really think this game will get to a running clock at some point.

Good start, but clear fork to northwest is a serious hike. I would think the PAC is a real possibility. It seems like some of the southern teams (TV, IV etc) are always considering leaving that conference. The wcal would be a lot of fun and while I do think Orrville would live in the upper tier of that league, I don't think they would dominate it. Add either triway or Loudonville for an even 10 and that would be really entertaining. The wcal is very stable and not likely to rock the boat, though.

If I was king....I would add Loudonville, Triway, Orrville, and Tuslaw to the Wcal and have an Eastern and Western conference. That would be a great league, with easy scheduling, resonable travel times. Lots of built in rivalrys, and I imagine lots of good gate games for all involved.

As I sat and watched this debacle (to put it kindly) I couldn't help but think how RRN would have that Orrville team in the playoffs....LOL, village idiot.
