Now that we have that out of the way, I'm asking the OC b/c I know there are people who attended OU, and people who live there. What is a NICE hotel in the Athens area? I have to go there for a weekend, and want to take the wife. I also plan on hitting the Pizza Shack, or whatever the hell it is called, in Logan.
COA & like_that - I'm going to get the president's suite, and give her the servant's quarters.

The 3 non-dump hotels in Athens are the OU Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Hampton Inn. The last 2 were built about 6 years ago. The star level in Athens tops out at 2.5 star hotels, so that's as "nice" as it gets.
If not picky about rooms, Hotwire lists a 2.5 star hotel as a hot rate usually, and it has to be Hampton or Holiday simply because no other hotels exist at that star level down there and the OU Inn doesn't use those sites. They also usually offer a $25 discount if you download their app and purchase it that way.
I honestly don't know if any of them have hot tubs if you're serious about that.
Also make sure it's not a big weekend at OU (Moms weekend, etc) or they will be sold out or several hundred dollars per night

Baymont is kind of shitty compared to the others above, but still better than the rest of the old motels. It's older, and it was supposed to have gone to Sheriffs sale last year due to foreclosure so god knows its current condition.
That weekend looks like a dead one. MAC Basketball tourney is that weekend in Cleveland so if anything there will be less than normal in Athens.

Isn't Athens normally dead anyway? Aside from Halloween, of course.

No it's not. It is dead for much of the summer and during student breaks, but otherwise is pretty lively most weekends. Halloween is a time to avoid it since amateurs from all over the place show up to act like idiots.dlazz;1578569 wrote:I mean this in the most inoffensive way possible:

For my money, the OU Inn is your best bet. It's nice, clean, with a decent bar and restaurant.

Your best bet would be the Holiday Inn express, I'm pretty sure OU Inn doesn't have a Hot tub and the Hampton Inn just Started a big remodeling project, and Baymont is NASTY.
The Holiday Inn is located right behind an Applebee's on East State St., Skip Pizza Ceossing in Logan and hit up Courtside Pizza in Athens or the Pita Pit in Athens, both Amazing

My comparison is valid. They're big schools in small towns.

Difference is that BG is a smallish town in an area where they're near a lot of comparable (Findlay, Lima, Defiance) or much larger (Toledo) places. Athens is more remote where you don't have much of anything within a half hour or so drive.dlazz;1578713 wrote:BGSU enrollment: 17706

Typically, towns in BG's setting are more or less "small towns", while ones like Athens have a lot more of interest to offer because there aren't other easy options in the area.

Hell, Columbus is the closest city to Athens that has anything to offer, and it's over an hour away.Heretic;1578720 wrote:Difference is that BG is a smallish town in an area where they're near a lot of comparable (Findlay, Lima, Defiance) or much larger (Toledo) places.
