I know PSH has been the lead role in a lot of movies, but to me, he is the best Supporting Actor (that was) out there. He and Djimon Hounsou are the best.

Such a shame, as he had a ton of great films left in him and was finally starting to get consistent work as a lead actor.

I don't need to be high to enjoy Lebowski. It's great. However I don't remember Office Space being that great.

I wasn't the biggest fan of that movie, but he was awesome in it during the basketball scenes. Whether he was the lead, or supporting, or whether it was drama or comedy, he absolutely nailed it. Such a shame.

Great actor. One of my favorites.

His portrayal as the cult leader of "The Cause" in The Master was fucking excellent. Agree with others. He had a lot of good films left in him. I don't know that we had yet to even scratch the surface of his best work.

they said on tv that the next part was nearly all filmed
"Plutarch remains a pivotal figure in the two remaining sequels Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. Hoffman is said to have largely wrapped on the Part 1 shoot, and had seven remaining days of filming left for Part 2. How director Frances Lawrence and team will work around his tragic absence is still unknown. But their colleague and friend’s death won’t affect the films’ scheduled release dates of Nov. 21, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015,"

Another movie along these lines is his portrayal of a sexually abusive priest in "Doubt" w/Meryl Streep. As you said, he was fucking excellent!

He was clean and sober for 23 years before relapsing last year. He did a ten day detox last May, but clearly that did not work. Addiction sucks.

My favorite roles of his were the lead in a dark movie called "Owning Mahoney" - a true story about a compulsive gambler whole stole from the bank he worked for. I also loved his small role in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" - the way he saw through Ripley's crap well before Dickie. He had a way of looking at Ripley that showed he was completely on to him. "How's the peeping Tom? How's the peeping?"

Anyway, a great actor as others are saying. A great talent.

I definitely feel sympathy for him. It's not like he was planning to leave his kids behind when sticking that needle in his arm. He was (apparently at the time) alone and sick and probably an emotional wreck. Addiction is a disease.

That's crazy, though, that he was clean for 23 years before relapsing. Not that it matters, but it'd be interesting to know what triggered the slide back.
