so the final teams are set...

Based on nothing but what I read on the internets, here is my guess at rankings...

1. Perry
2. St Eds
3. Brecksville
4. Moeller
5. Clay
6. Marysville
7. Mason
8. Delaware Hayes

Anyone else with thoughts? Am I under ranking the Central District teams?

Bucksman says you over ranked them...he has Delaware 7, Marysville 8

I think DH and M are 7 and 8 according to Bucksman because they are Central District. My opinion is duals are based a bit on match ups. Marysville might be 7 or 8, but DH is IMO 5 or 6.

The one thing that we won’t get to see here in the CD is Hays vs Mville I think that would be one awesome dual. Then we could follow-up with the results from Darby to see where the teams would place.

I completely agree. As everyone knows in a dual format bonus points mean everything. Hayes scored those in bunches. I definitely believe they are above Mason. I also think they would match up with Clay.

After looking at last nights results, I think Marysville,Delaware, and even Westerville North belong in this discussion. I think all three could have 5 SQ this yr and Districts will be exciting to watch. Bradley, Teays and Liberty are a distant 4th, but will show well. Hayes is the best built Dual team in CD. Bonus pts got them by the second best dual team in CD last night. Marysville top heavy

Hayes not only gets a lot of bonus points, but also they do a great job of keeping them from the other team. I could see them doing well at state duals as long as they don't draw Perry for the first match.

Pairings are up. Hayes gets Perry. Marysville gets Moeller. Does either team have any chance?

I would say DH should be a 6 or 7 seed. I think Marysville should be 8. Marysville is a better tournament team than dual team. I thought it would be between Mason and DH for the 6 seed. To say they are above Mason is without merit. Mason is very good and deep in every weight class and have their share of guys who can get bonus points. How many weight classes is DH going to win and what weight classes vs Mason?

Not too far off:

1. Massillon Perry
2. Archbishop Moeller +2
3. Brecksville
4. Lakewood St. Edward -2
5. Oregon Clay
6. Mason +1
7. Marysville -1
8. Delaware Hayes

Think the Central District is underrated, I believe, and it's sort of a self fulfilling prophecy, because by being low ranked, they face the toughest teams, and will get bounced, and everyone will say how weak the Central district is. Would love to see Hayes vs. Mason or Clay...

With the exception of Blair Academy, Massillon Perry is the best team in the country from 106-170. They have a weak 182 and 195 and above average 220 and 285. The score with Massillon Perry on Saturday will be ugly because of the bonus points they will accumulate and will not show how good Hayes is this year. Tough draw. Just have to keep getting better.

132- toss-up

145 Hayes - potential bonus

160 Toss-up edge to mason but Hayes is very explosive

113 Mason with bonus
126 Hayes close kid from Mason is tough, he's beat Crasto from Centerville and Mays from Lebanon
145 Hayes close kid from Mason is tough and scrappy, 26-9 record
182 to 195 all Mason kids are tough. their records with a tough schedule are 182 is 27-10 with 20 pins, 195 is 27-9 with 18 pins, 220 is 17-5 with 4 pins (was out injured early in the season)

I'm certainly not discounting Hayes, just responding to an earlier post where somebody said they were definitely above Mason. No way you could say Definitely. I'm thinking more 8-6 or 9-5 Mason but the tossup matches could go either way. It's great discussion but it really doesn't matter because it isn't going to happen.

Mason wrestled SWOWCA, Mentor Duals (wrestled Solon and Elyria) Olentangy Liberty, Dvorak, and Graham. Also beat Springboro (23-2 dual record) and Centerville handily. Note that my post said I thought Mason or DH would battle for the 6/7 seed and I would not have complained either way.

Just saw the comment I made about "somebody said" was you. LOL Regardless, I'm sure it would be a good match but no way we can settle it here. Best of luck to you guys this weekend. You drew the short straw but so did everyone else that has to face MP.:)

You're right cthelights they did lose to Darby this year with 4 starters out. But I guess that doesn't matter.

Haha I guess it does matter this yr? But it certainly didn't matter when Hayes beat Darby last yr when Darby had 3 starters out. Hayes stayed ahead of Darby all yr in those rankings.
and it didn't matter last week when Darby had 6 starters out and lost to drop out off the rankings.
and hey btw you were the one that said Hayes didn't lose. I'm just trying to give our boys some love because they actually did get it done on the mat.
man that seems like it was sooooo long ago!

Tough draw for Delaware..I think they could beat a few teams that they have seeded ahead of them, not sure they can beat Perry but they are ranked to low if you ask me. JMO

It's a tough situation in CO.
until we do something big on the State scene we are always going to be considered second class.
ive said it before, but we are still a young and growing district.
all the school splits have "watered down" the talent.
we now have an exclusive district within CO save Logan and now 3V.
we used to get about 8 of the ten top Dayton teams coming into Darby.
it will take a couple more yrs to grow into filling that void.
that has made the SW district that much stronger which we are competitive comparably.
what we are lacking is the depth in the upper weights to be competitive state wide.
i think it again comes down to most football coaches aren't encouraging or even supporting wrestling in our area.
look at the D1 AND D2 state football champs Moe and Loveland. There upper weights whom are all top rated state wide and even some nation wide ranked kids starred on their championship gridiron teams. Smh!
but hey jonnie...you need to get in the weight room and lift to get better at football.

Prior to the schools splitting, was the central district more competitive as a whole with the rest of the state? I ask not to stir crap, but an honest question as I've really only heavily been involved with wrestling for 10 years or so.

cthelites -- agree with you on almost all fronts. I would just add that I think that sometimes the football coaches bear a bit too much of the brunt of the blame for big guys not wrestling. I think they are a ready made scape goats, but most football coaches I personally know wish more of their football players would wrestle. I attribute some of the shortage of big studs wrestling to culture. Not enough of them start young in central Ohio (this will change as the youth programs grow and prosper). Many are apprehensive to pick up the sport later, because they are behind the curve and too prideful to get their heads handed to them occasionally. If they don't start by MS, it is a tough sell because they'll be in for some beatings if they start as a 9th grader. Just my opinion. But I look at Central Ohio guys like a Jacoby Boran or a Keith Heitzman or a Noah Spielman and think about what beasts they could have been at 285. Why didn't they wrestle? Doubt it was because a football coach told them not too. To wrestle, you have to be willing to lose and lose publicly, 'Super Man' doesn't want to admit there Kryptonite exists. Just a theory, but I think this mindset is every bit as much to blame at football coaches.

Agreed. The problem with big guys in wrestling is if they do start young they struggle to get a lot better early on due to lack of competition. Lighter weights have dozens of kids to roll around with. Heavier kids might have 1 or 2. In addition, if the heavier kids want to compete in dual tournaments with traveling teams in grades 4 thru 6 they are often forced to wrestle kids older than them just to fill the spot and they get abused which can be discouraging. I really think you can take an athletic big guy and make them a great wrestler in high school if they are humble enough to handle defeat early on. The other problem with big guy numbers if you are 6' 5" 285 pounds you are looking to gain more weight and muscle to get a D1 scholarship and possible NFL Career.
