This recent article suggests that nothing has changed. Like I said, I just read it somewhere, which means absolutely nothing.GOONx19;1569698 wrote:^ We were just taught immunizations in pharmacy school in the fall semester. I feel like that would've been mentioned. The vaccines for shingles/pox, nasal flu, rabies, and MMR are the only fairly common live virus vaccines.

I question the effectiveness of the shot, so I don't bother getting one.
Hope this helps.

Listen to him, guise. He's a jim teacher.ccrunner609;1569720 wrote:ok this thread has gone full retard in regards to the flu virus. First off there is no such thing as a "24 hour flu". The influenza virus is a bastard and it doesn't come and go in 24 hours.
Secondly, any and all flu shots contain dead viruses. The idea that any medical setting would actually shoot a live virus into someone is just stupid. The virus is grown in an egg and then radiated to kill it.
You technically cannot get the flu from the shot. Some people with a weak immune system can have flu like symptoms which are very mild. It is actually good to show some mild symptoms.....that means your immunse system is going to really be strong in regards to the antibodies it created.

Except the medical settings do use live viruses, just not for the flu shot. And some of the flu vaccine uses animal cells, not eggs.ccrunner609;1569720 wrote: Secondly, any and all flu shots contain dead viruses. So you get a shot, get mild flu-like symptoms, but they call it side effects instead of "sick". If you absolutely cannot get sick from the shot, then what causes the side effects? Isn't it the immune systems response to the virus injected?ccrunner609;1569720 wrote:You technically cannot get the flu from the shot. How many people got sick/died before flu shots, vs. after flu shots were introduced?

I imagine when people say they got the 24 hour flu they mean they just got sick for 24 hours. Has happened to me a few times where I went from feeling good to awful and lasted about 24 hours.ccrunner609;1569720 wrote:ok this thread has gone full retard in regards to the flu virus. All you have to do is read any basic info on the flu shot to state these things. I don't think he possesses any special knowledge on this topic.Fab4Runner;1569734 wrote:I was just going to say that he actually sounds knowledgeable for basically the first time ever.

Yes, had it a couple of times.WebFire;1569689 wrote:Did you often get the flu before that?
Also, I'll look for some source about the shot. Not that I don't believe you, but I've seen it mentioned elsewhere that it changed this year.

I get a flu shot every year (it's free at work), and have never had any sort of flu-like illness since I started doing so. Not spending three days in bed is worth three seconds of pain (which, most doctors will tell you, is why most people avoid getting shots).

Here you go, straight from the CDC. They seem reputable, right? Probably telling you the truth, not trying to steal your possessions or take away your guns or that other shit you believe in.
But anyways, I don't think you should change, either. You're probably more knowledgeable than most medical references.

Work makes me get it for the past two or three years. Never had much of a problem with it.

What's referred to as "24 hour flu" is not the flu. It is food poisoning or something else. The influenza virus doesn't work that way.thavoice;1569561 wrote:I have received one each of the last 4 years. It is mandatory.
Each time I came down with a 24 hour flu 4 weeks from the shot. Dont know if it i from that, but it 4 years in a row, almost exactly at a month each tim.

Additionally, most people refer to the flu when they are throwing up. That is usually not the flu either.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1570271 wrote:What's referred to as "24 hour flu" is not the flu. It is food poisoning or something else. The influenza virus doesn't work that way.

Yes. Typically it's Norovirus. You get it from bad food, not washing your hands after shitting, or someone who touches you not washing their hands after shitting. That's why it spreads through elementary schools and daycares like wildfire.WebFire;1570274 wrote:Additionally, most people refer to the flu when they are throwing up. There are plenty of people that take CDC info with a grain of salt due to relations with pharmaceuticals and doctors.GoPens;1570374 wrote:The CDC is part of the gubment. They bad.
