Soccer has a chance to get huge in the US. People in the 20-30 absolutely love it, especially compared with baseball which as tonight showed can drag on for 4 hours easy

Continental competition is always going to hold the MLS back, in my opinion. Players who want to play at the top level want to play in the Champions League. Unless North and South America merge the CONCACAF Champs with Copa Libertadores (which will never happen, and still wouldn't quite match up with the CL), there's always going to be something lacking.

The salary cap is a hindrance, too. It will get better, but I don't ever see the MLS being a top 5 league in its current format.

If America ever greatly improved, I have no doubt we'd be allowed to join either Copa Lib or Champions League. Even more likely is the Dream League is created in 10-20 years, and America gets a spot or two in it.

Well, CL no, unless UEFA gets rid of it and another organization takes over. Thats Euro teams only.

I am friends with a guy who is a technical director there (Orlando City). He said the deal is already done with Kaka (said this over the winter) and said that Robinho will also be there. Kaka already has a house in Orlando.

Con_Alma;1628466 wrote:Where do you think it will get to?

WSJ had a report stating that 11% of the U.S. population watched some of the World Cup 4 years ago while 28% of U.S. population watched some of the NFL playoffs last year. How big can soccer get in the U.S.?
Soccer will only continue rising. It's already 7th in the world in attendance for 1st division pro leagues -- and only a couple hundred back of being in top 5.

Last night's game set a World Cup record for ESPN viewership, 9.1 overnight rating.

Baseball now is boring. However the sport down the stretch and in the postseason is about as good as any, I don't think another sport builds the drama baseball does with each pitch. As for the MLS getting big, it may but the only thing is we're the only ones really who play it in the summer while Europe's main competitive season is during the winter

My coworker was telling me they sold Sanchez to make room for Suarez...something like that, but what's the point? No fee limit, no cap?

They dont have unlimited funds. They were actually in serious debt a few years ago which is why they had to cut back spending. They basically got Cesc for cheap because they couldnt afford to pay anything lol.

They didnt have enough money to make serious bids for Luiz or Hummels last year either, as well as a few defenders they wanted the last few years. They have been slowly getting it back, and look to have the spending under control and able to make real changes to the squad. NY will be sending them a hefty amount for Xavi here soon.

Their president like 6 years ago, Joan Laporta, just spent money like it was unlimited...it ultimately led to him being fired when people realized he was spending money the club didnt have lol

Plus you're not allowed to operate in debt correct? I feel like FIFA came down hard on someone for that

UEFA, not FIFA. You can operate in debt up to a certain threshold, and they didn't really come down hard at all.

Columbus D really is bad. But only because 2 of our starting 4 are out of the 18. The O is the real problem

Haha those crosses were absolutely horrible but they should've had two goals in the game. The D getting beaten so easily was the problem tonight though, just too easy

Arsenal comes here next Saturday for a friendly against NYRB in Jersey.

I thought I'd check tickets for the hell of it. Cheapest is $167.00 for upper corner seats. F that. I wish it were at the Meadowlands instead.

Does anyone know if Time Warner carries all the EPL games like Uverse does? Uverse adds the extra channels. We are looking at a place but they only have TWC and I don't know anything about it and can't find any info on google.

beIN Sports is typically the place to watch soccer. Does TWC have beIN?

I made the move to Dish Network because I wanted beIN.

I'm stuck with TWC in Dallas. TWC has NBC Sports they show EPL and I also have BEIN which shows a ton of soccer from around the world.

Thanks but do you know if NBC Sports for TWC adds the extra channels? All season you could watch every game as Uverse adds extra NBC sports channels.

They don't and TWC isn't on the nbc sports xtra online (or at least wasn't a few months back) :-( but they still show a good number of games on that channel. firstrowsports.eu will get you any game you are looking for though!
