America's Game

For the 114th time Navy will be facing Army for the chance to earn another Star.

The Mids current streak is at 11. Can they make it 12 in a row going into the Armed Forces Bowl?

Dumb to play it on December 14th, would have rather seen it on Remembrance Day

TV contract is based on it being without conflict the last regular season D-1A game of the year. It was moved to the second Saturday in DEcember back in 2009.

He'd rather I didn't but he's a third year and boxes at the Academy. Played soccer and lacrosse locally.

Gotcha. I respect that. You've given some info for me to identify him. I can easily roster the Ohio Mids and their hometowns. If his physical activity is boxing the Brigade team is publsihed on the Yard.

I'll try and look him up next time I'm in Annapolis...hopefully springtime. I like meeting the Ohio boys and thanking them for what's to come.

He's going to have to be pretty high in his class to get that selection choice. Hope he makes it.

The silver dollar that was to be flipped by President John F. Kennedy at the 1963 Army-Navy game in Philadelphia will be used for the coin toss 50 years later at the 2013 Army-Navy game on Saturday in Philadelphia.

Some notable great games in the rivalry.

1890, at West Point- Navy 24 Army 0, Navy picked up a big win in the first meeting as the Mid's Red Emrich scored 4 touchdowns on the Cadets home turf. 1891, at Annapolis- Army 32 Navy 16, West Point returns the favor by dominating the Mids on their home field. Right guard Elmer Clark scored 3 touchdowns for Army.

1920, at New York- Navy 7 Army 0, Navy's Vic Noyes caught a 7-yard pass from Bennie Koehler to give the Mids a win. The victory evened the series at that time at 11-11-1.

1930, at New York- Army 6 Navy 0, Army's Ray Stecker scored on a 56-yard run in the fourth quarter to give Army the win. Army and Navy had not met in 1928 and 1929 due to a dispute over the eligibility of players.

1944, at Baltimore- Army 23 Navy 7, This game was played during World War II and Army was transported to Baltimore from New York on a ship guarded by Navy warships. One of the best teams in college football history, Army led just 7-0 at the half. In the second half scores by Felix "Doc" Blanchard sealed the win and a National Championship for Army. Army would repeat both feats in 1945.

1952, at Philadelphia- Navy 7 Army 0, Navy pulled off a win in a defensive battle. Phil Mcnahan scored from 2-yards out in the first quarter. It would be the only scoring of the game.

1963, at Philadelphia- Navy 34 Army 14, Navy Roger Staubach completed 11 of 13 passes and helped the Mids jump out to an early 15-0 lead the Cadets in the City of Brotherly love. Staubach went on to a successful NFL career.

1971, at Philadelphia- Army 24 Navy 23, With Army leading 24-23 late in the fourth quarter, an apparent touchdown pass to Andy Pease was not caught. Navy had passed up a short field goal to go for the touchdown.

1989, at East Rutherford- Navy 19 Army 17, With 11 second remaining Navy's Frank Schenk made a 32-yard field goal to give the Mids the win.

1996, at Philadelphia- Army 24 Navy 21 Army had won close games in 1994 and 1995. The Cadets would prevail again in 1996. Army battled back from a 21-3 second quarter deficit to get the win. The Cadets intercepted a Navy pass at the goal line with seconds remaining to seal the win for Army.
SERIES RECORD
Navy wins: 57
Army wins: 49
