It's mutual, and my wife was actually the one who bought it up after our first Christmas living with each other. It's not a cop out. Also, this year we adopted a family through the Salvation Army and it wasn't cheap. We both got more enjoyment out of helping a family in need than we would have if we had bought each other some crap.
