Anchorman 2. As classic as the first one was, this was positively heinous. I laughed maybe twice the entire time.

Yeah, that trope has been overdone too much as it is.

Hancock

7/10

Promising plot: Super hero who doesn't give a shit redefining itself.

Plot shortcomings: Lack of explanation as to what he actually is or where he's from (only that he wasn't/isn't alone). His "kryptonite" was lame-sauce.

Ancillary redemptions: The cast. Bateman and Smith were good in a weak plot. Theron was smoking hot, as always. Also, not too long.

The Lovely Bones and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I read both books many, many years ago, so I figured I would watch the movies. Both were just okay, IMO. The books are always better.

Agreed. Whole concept seemed already played out with Big and that movie Jennifer garner was in.

Lone Survivor.
First viewing.....9.7 out of 10. I reserve the right to move it up after I see it in theatres. Watched it on some site we patched through to the TV when we were snowed in on monday and it buffered some and missed dialogue and flow. Proably took 2.5 hours to watch the 2 hour movie.

I was worried I would get too built up for it.

Read the book 2.5 times (last time, the .5, was the last half of the book where it all starts) and the movie is pretty dead on to it,thanks to the guy (Luttrell) who went through this who actually was on set making sure it all went as it actually happened.

Just wish it was longer...maybe 20-30 minutes. Zero Dark Thirty was 2 hr and 20 and wished this one was as well.

Absolutely A M A Z I N G action in this movie. The ending was a fantastic touch to it.

Watched The Hangover. Meh. Guilty pleasure. Not good cinema, but it appeals to the adolescent in me.

Enjoyment: 8/10
Quality film: 5/10

I don't agree with the view of The Hangover as a guilty pleasure. It is what it is. A really good comedy.

Of course, we all have our own standards for what we think a good film should be.

That's fair, I suppose. To me, it just strikes me as something that relies exclusively on adolescent humor.

However, I enjoy that, so it doesn't matter to me whether or not it's good. I enjoy it.

I see what you are saying, but I guess just disagree with regard to The Hangover.

You are right that some comedies are more that way, for sure, such as Super Bad, which is awful and something I'd never watch again and am still mad that I had to the first time. The only redeeming benefit from having done so is being introduced for the first time to Jonah Hill, who has become one of my favorite actors of any genre. He is really, really good and, after his performances in Moneyball and Wolf of Wall Street, the sky's the limit for somebody of his range. He's exceptional.

I watched it almost daily when it came out on DVD. I have probably seen it 100 times. One of my all time favorites.
