I was at state games at the show back in the 80's. I dont remember much other than the team lost, and remembering asking dad if it was such a big game then why was no one there!


I do look for a an uptick in attendance over NE ohio though. There will be a number of people who will want to attend some games just to get into the shoe. It is a pretty cool place. That alone will draw people. With it being more centralized will help as well.

Other states have their finals in big stadiums and I doubt it bothers any of those fans/players. I also think the kids would get more of a kick out of playing in the SHoe then at Massillon or Canton

Suffer compared to if there was no TV, I agree but I think there will be an uptick when it goes to the shoe because of the reasons I stated.

If it would stay in the shoe for lets say the same amount of time its been in NE Ohio, then I think you see a similiar decline percentage-wise.

Pick, way to cherry pick SEO when SWO ( who has more than their fair share of participants) and Western Ohio (Coldwater and the like) with the same have similar distances as SEO! lol And saying Canton/Massilon have options compared to Columbus is drinking the kool aid!

If they charge one price for all 7 games like they do in Indiana, attendance may go up.

I never stated Canton/Massillon have options that Columbus didnt, because that isn't true at all. What they have to offer is tradition and a great atmosphere. Having the state finals is huge for the area. The majority of Columbus wouldn't give a damn. And you are the one that brought up SEO, not me. I'm aware of Coldwater, MSML, etc...and have never heard of their fans complaining about making the trip yearly.

PS- 4 NEO teams clinched their spot to the finals last night, and at least one and potentially 3 more tonight.

I do think attendance would go up due to the centralized location (however fans of teams are going to go no matter where the game is played) and the games being in one stadium. Driving from Massillon to Canton between games is a bit of an inconvenience with the traffic and parking.

No pick, I mentioned all three parts of Ohio that drive 3+ hours to get to Canton.

and I've never heard a fan/player from either school complain they have to drive SO far to play/watch in the state championship. You want it to be in a central location for your reasons, not for the betterment of the players/fans.

It's not like players are going to bitch about it. I'm sure they aren't happy.

It is for betterment of the players. Long drives do effect performance.

You want it to stay in Canton for your own reasons.

I think it'll hurt because there are less casual fans in the area. I'd venture to say that Central Ohio cares the least about HSFB

NEO obviously cares, NWO has the MAC contingent that follows closely, SWO has Cincinnati that cares and that's about it, and SEO has a spread out lukewarm following.

No one in Columbus gives a shit, so the local casual draw will be abysmal. They'll all be watching the B1G title games at bars or home and they just maybe will turn a TV to STO for a while

Long drives do not bother you at all in huge games, you think kids going to state titles are worried about the long drive? You get to the site so early it doesn't even matter, I remember going down to C-Bus for states and no one cared about the drive at all. Also as TS said, Central Ohio doesn't care about HS Football much at all, while northern Ohio teams generally have huge followings. But there's something about playing the games in Massillon and Canton, it's the best places for HS Football in the nation and it should stay there

but..but..nobody cares about playing in the hall of fame stadium where professional football players play and legends come to every year....they only care about the shoe!

Again, I'm not talking about what kids are 'worried' about or 'care' about. A long drive takes a toll, whether you notice or not. Reason why most College teams leave the day before a travel game.

Ha it's 3 hours tops, that's not something that takes a toll on you. 8 hour drives are the ones that do, but not ones within your own state, plus when you're 16-17 you have so much energy it's unreal

When you're comparing a 3 hour drive to a 30 minutes drive, there is absolutely a difference.

To think an extra 2.5 hours on a bus going to play the State Championship is going to make any difference on the performance of a bunch of 17 year old kids is ridiculous.

To think a long bus ride doesn't effect a kid whether it's physical, mental, emotional, slow start, whatever is ridiculous.

Depending on when they play, some teams stay the night before. Our school has stayed the night before a few times. Last year htey drove up the day of the game and went on to win so who knows. I know as an old guy I wouldnt want to play after riding for that long, but to be honest.....the teams have been on some roadies 2 plus hours in the season or playoffs so going a bit further isnt bad. I believe our team stops at some place on the way to eat, and go through some walk throughs so they arent just sitting for 3.5 hours.
