I'd disagree. The purpose of headlights is to be seen as much as to see. It's a law that protects me from morons. I just hate that there are morons out there who wouldn't automatically turn on their lights in bad weather.

The headlights on my car are on anytime the car is on.

For some weird reason though, it still has a switch to turn them on or off.

So a bird shits on my windshield, now I have to turn on my headlights before I hit the squishers?

I don't understand why anyone would turn their wipers on and NOT think to turn their lights on too. If it's raining enough that you need to turn your wipers on then it's also dark enough that you need your lights. Maybe not so you can see the road, but so other drivers can see you. My car has auto lights, so I have never worried too much about it because usually if it's raining enough for me to need my wipers it's also dark enough for my lights to come on all on their own.

The Giss, no, if you are just cleaning your windshield you don't need to turn them on or if you just hit them once no need to turn on the lights, you only need to do it if you actually turn them on to run continually by themselves.
