Yep. But in our society, someone has to be a victim of everything. You wouldn't expect someone to be help accountable for their actions, would you?

Well, I mean, the kid is dead so I wouldn't say there was no accountability on his part.

I'm definitely not going to lose sleep over this situation, and I'm not even slightly upset it happened. I just think it could have been handled in a completely different manner from the get-go from all parties involved. I don't disagree that the cops were justified in the final decision to end the threat, I just disagree that it needed to be escalated that far. In the end I probably blame the father the most. Sure, your kid was stupid to take off in the truck, but just let him stew for a while and get over and he'll come back. Getting the police involved was stupid.

I Dont think the cops escalated it at all really. It was game over when he took a turn so fast that the trailer almost took out another car and then he immediately and deliberately rammed the cop car. At that point he is now a violent "car thief" (as far as the cops know) on the run.

I was referring to others calling him a victim, and the fact the family will probably sue.

I guess you were the perfect child, young adult, and adult. Heaven forbid people make mistakes and try to turn around. It's not an overnight fix for many.

It's a shame this happened, no doubt it could've been avoided on all fronts. Seems like a minor dispute and a young life lost. I'd hate to be this father right now.

What the 19 year old did shows absolutely no indication that he was trying to "turn things around". Someone trying to fix their life doesn't run from the cops. Someone trying to fix their life certainly doesn't ram said cops multiple times.

I cant remember if the article mentioned it, but I believe this all started because the kid wanted his dad to buy cigarettes for him and dad said no.

I don't even think the kid was in view of the cops at that point. at least it didn't look like he was. it also didn't sound like an order. it sounded like more of a question in order to make the decision to back off than an actual order to back off.

Right. I think they were questioning whether they had lost him or not. Then right after that, the truck comes back into view.
