When I bet basketball it's usually the over/under. I like the under in the spurs grizz (186)game tonight. Also the under in the Charlotte Houston game(205)

Is anyone who sports bet for more than 1 year up against Vegas?

I think sports betting is a waste of money but I do admit it definitely can make a contest you don't care about more interesting.

Just like everyone who is in prison is innocent, everyone you ask if they won money at a casino or sports betting will say they are up.....

IM only 20 down on the season. I've been doing a lot more research now though when making bets. Looking to do a 3 or 4 team parlay this weekend.

Also, I only like betting on football. Basketball is just too damn hard.

I won pretty big in college betting college basketball, but haven't had the same luck since. Still up, but I've lost a couple hundred the last year.

I did win 1,500$ doing an NFL pickem. Spreads were Vegas, but it wasn't technically Vegas. 60$ to enter and you pick 4 games a week. I got 1st with a record of 40-28

This year though, I'm like 7 games under lol. Haven't checked the standings in a few weeks.

I'm up over a grand almost 2 for the year. I've places 80-90% of my bets on MMA fights though. Vegas still hasn't caught up in MMA like they should. On one card alone last month I went 4-4 on underdogs winning their fights and all four were guys I felt should have been pretty big favorites.

I work with with a guy who is a huge gambler and every once in awhile he tips me off on a few other sports to bet on.

Haha nice... I don't follow MMA but that probably would be something to look into. Like Laley I normally do pretty well during college basketball season. I feel like if you follow it especially the lesser conferences you can always find good bets.

OhioBucks did you bet the unders I mentioned. Both are looking pretty good right now. In my experience the under is pretty good bet early in the NBA season.

Dont like taking 4 favorites in a parlay for the NFL.

history shows the money is made by taking underdogs.

How does history show that? You do know how the spread works right?

I know that Laley knows how spreads work and I'm not going to go find it for you but the information is out there that betting underdogs especially for the NFL is better for the long term to win money.

Of course you aren't going to find the information because it doesn't exist. The only way I could see underdogs having the edge is the odds maker skewing the early line so that you pay a 'penalty' for picking the favorite. However, because the line shifts any advantage is easily priced out and in the long run you lose money.

Vegas makes lines for the public. Typically, public likes favorites cause they dont want to put money on a team they dont think will win the game (even if they will cover). Then the sharks put money on underdogs and make money. Vegas still wins...its why they are sharks and crunch numbers and make a living off of selling their thoughts to people.

Quick search. Last year underdogs won 52.4%. This year they are at 53.4%

If you cant read that graph...favorites covered 47% of the time from 2002-2012. The larger the spread, the more it favors the underdog. Pick-ems to 2.5pt spreads are closer to the 50-50 you would imagine. 3 point spreads were only covered 44% of the time, I really wish I could find the numbers on 3.5 spreads. That half point is what fucks with my mind the most when picking games.

For the record ohioBucks, I took cincy tonight lol.

Of your games, I wouldn't have done the Dallas game. That's a garbage time TD from fucking you kind of game...

I also like Redskins this week, but not sold to the point I disagree with the Chargers. But keep in mind it opened at Washington -1.5 and the public bets have moved it to San Diego -1.5 (some places, obviously not your site). Vegas loves those moves and the new "dog" often covers/wins. Most recent one where public bets moved the line more than 3 points was the Jets/Pats a few weeks ago.
