Here's the link that made me think you would need Kit Kat for this feature. There was a necessary change that needed made in the messaging API. Thankfully, they aren't requiring Kit Kat for this app.

I'm uneasy that they didn't integrate Voice into Hangouts. Ironically, they DID do it on Hangouts for iOS .

Just got the update to Hangouts that allows for SMS.

There's a really noticeable delay in sending and receiving messages through the Hangouts app. Hopefully that gets fixed soon. Otherwise, I dig the integration.

I didn't notice any delay, but I also have only used it once or twice. I'll use it more when they finally integrate Google Voice

i haven't had any delay. I finally got fed up with waiting and sideloaded the APK yesterday only to receive the update an hour later. stupid google.

Looks like I have to switch back to the old Messaging app.

Hangouts is overriding the Visual Voicemail app on my phone. So I don't get voicemail notifications, I get an SMS that tells me to call a number to retrieve my messages. A little research shows that there's no fix right now and that I'll just have to wait. Apparently Hangouts intercepts a message that Visual Voicemail needs. And since Visual Voicemail isn't getting that message, VV won't work with Hangouts.

Havent had had issues with you mail. Or I just don't VMs.

Perhaps it just fucks with the stock visual voicemail application? I don't use You Mail. But might look into it. I really like the SMS integration into Hangouts. But I had to stop because I was just getting really fucked up texts telling me I had a voicemail instead of actually getting a voicemail.
