I'd say playing soccer would be the first embarrassment

It could takes some work to find a private school that isn't functioning based on Common Core State Standards....especially if State funds are tied to such practices. Many private schools already carry out a variety of specified tasks in order to receive State funds for doing so.

What cracks me up about ECOT is that it gets so much state praise, yet test scores are toward the bottom!

Live in or around the Canton area?

Note: BRF is not that bad of a golfer at time, good advice giver if you care to listen, I however should be band from owning clubs.
I'm getting back into golf after a 35 year golf retirement (maybe once or twice a season outing at best) over the past 35 years. Good news I look good, leave the gun in the truck and have fun...

Anyone wanting to have a group golf outing with Belly and BRF before the season over PM Belly or BRF

balls, fees, cart, drinks and meal not included ...

Common Core came about thanks to your state and federal public servants! If you dont like it, start with them! A fellow teacher put it very well about common core, the students knowledge is going to be a mile wide and an inch deep!

Really?

I've seen a lot of studies on this, and most of them seem to come down in favor if homeschooled students doing slightly to moderately better than publicly educated students.

Examples cited elsewhere:

http://learnthingsweb.hubpages.com/hub/Do-Homeschoolers-Really-Do-Better-on-Tests
http://www.mackinac.org/11559

This article draws the distinction between structured homeschooling and unstructured homeschooling, which finished above and below publicly educated students, respectively, in the test in question:

http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2011/09/study-of-the-day-home-schooled-children-score-higher-on-tests/245036/

I was never homeschooled, but from anecdotal experience (which got me looking into it ... not what formed my conclusions), it always appeared to me that the homeschooled kids who transferred to my middle school or high school were always smarter than the average student in class ... substantially, in some cases.

I did a very quick search, and couldn't find their report card. Not on ODE, which is a sham.

Whose report card?

Also, forgive my unfamiliarity with the educational system (which is inexcusable, having a teacher for a wife), but what does ODE mean?

common core > better than what at least 30+ states currently had as their standards...as far as a mile wide and an inch deep comment i couldnt disagree more. i feel like if used properly it uses more of an application of the knowlege and focuses more on relationships between subjects. i have found increased depth and a lot of project based learning based on common core activiites than we had before. it will still be about two years before we get fully aligned as a state. I must note ohio was one of the leaders in curriculum imo...not like places such as florida

I think it's unfair to compare big school districts (Cleveland, Columbus, etc) with the hundreds of other districts around the state... There's a pretty sizable gap between city schools and random public schools in podunk towns, usually favoring the podunk schools
