About my feelings. The first half was a total debacle. The second half, they played a lot better and gave themselves a legit shot at winning, but just ran out of time down the stretch. I just wish the first half wasn't so bad -- might have been the ugliest basketball I've ever seen a team play. If Louisville was better offensively, the score could have been 50-10 at the break.Automatik;1681434 wrote:Scott fucking blows. He's fine against scrubs, but he can't be depended on when it matters.
I'm not as mad about this game now. They could have packed it in, but they showed some grit. This will be good for them.

I have never been a huge fan of Scott. He plays hard, great defense. But limited offensively and last nite was terrible. And I hope Matta continues to do what he did, bench him when he plays poorly. If he plays within the game, doesn't force things, he will be "ok", and have his good moments. Thats all I meant by that. If there was another option, great. There is not.

What a choke job by Scott and Thompson. I actually thought Thompson was worse than Scott. At least Matta took Scott out.
Tate also played too much.
I'd have rather seen Russell, Kam, Loving, Lee, Amir with their size than anything with Scott and THompson on the floor.

First off, crappy effort last night, needing a late surge to only beat Colgate by 20. Good thing we had the football team to redeem things from a "getting shit done" perspective.
Amir is more of a 5-6 and has the size and athleticism to contribute against teams like Louisville, but is so inconsistent with his effort and probably basketball IQ in general that instead of being a consistent 5-6 (like McDonald is a consistent 3-4), he ranges from a 1 to a 7 or so and will fluctuate wildly in that range from minute to minute.
Or, the tl;dr version: Williams might be one of the most exasperating players we've seen at OSU, but when it comes to teams with strong post presences, he's their best shot at holding their own in the paint; whereas McDonald would be more of a "he has 5 fouls to give" guy.
I'd say that depends on a combination of who the Bucks are playing and the effort Amir gives. To grade players on a 1-10 scale, I'd rank McDonald as an honest 3-4. Good enough to look strong against a team like Sacred Heart or whoever it was Amir sat out against (12 boards in about 20 minutes), but a completely non-entity against posts with size and athleticism (virtually no stats whatsoever in 10 minutes vs. Louisville).vball10set;1682989 wrote:McDonald is better, which isn't saying much

Really? The kid can flat out shoot the rock. Him coming off the bench and being able to do that will play huge for OSU. No, he doesn't do much more. But after last season woeful shooting issues..Williams is good to have off the bench. I didn't catch much of yesterday game, but he has been pretty decent this season doing just that.

What little I saw of this game, that's exactly what I saw. A team going through the motions. Didn't play very hard except on occasional spurts.Heretic;1683416 wrote:First off, crappy effort last night, needing a late surge to only beat Colgate by 20. I know it's been brought up numerous times already, but it's amazing how far Scott has regressed from the start of the season...my god.

He obviously still thinks he can shoot the ball.vball10set;1685024 wrote:I know it's been brought up numerous times already, but it's amazing how far Scott has regressed from the start of the season...my god.

Yes, Amir does still suck. Dude has some ability. Just don't think he has it above the shoulders. Hoping between McDonald and Lee, they can pick up the slack when needed. Cam can flat out shoot the rock. He obviously won't get all the looks against better teams. But he has a quick release and other teams are going to know they will have to get out on him. Which will open up the floor and lanes for others. Him coming off the bench to provide that is very good. Looks like he is 12yrs old and needs to get stronger. But he is confident shooting the ball! Bates Diop is getting better as well. Kid has unlimited potential. 6'8", with a 7'2" wing span. And Tate, can't help but like him too. Makes a few mistakes here and there, undersized, but plays aggressively, hard all the time with great energy. Like him giving that off the bench. He is a player. Reminds me of his HS coach Jerry Francis with his play.vball10set;1685045 wrote:I digress, but Amir still sucks.

Last night was a fun game to watch. After they heated up, there were extended periods of time where they just looked amazing, regardless of how low-tier the competition was in comparison. Kam couldn't miss, while both Tate and Bates-Diop gave great bench energy.
While High Point is a nobody, that one player was fun to watch. His "Jordan-lite" lay-up got me and my friend's attention and probably got replayed more than any other moment in the game on the DVR.
