Ohio State has UK and Iowa, neither on the road. The actual numbers are probably very heavily skewed towards Iowa as well.
Thanks. I had no idea

Even if UM wins, OSU owns head to head tiebreaker, so it looks like a 7 seed and would get MSU in quarterfinals....would have preferred being the 8 seed and drawing Indiana in the quarters

I hope Loving can carry over his recent aggressive play in to next season. I've never been a fan of the guy, but he has played well lately.

Giddens asking for his scholarship release and rumor that AJ Harris is not far behind is stunning to me. This would mean that 60% of last years freshman class is gone.

Why?

What is going on at Ohio State?

Trevor Thompson turns 22 in June. People laugh that he declared for the draft, but I wouldn't be shocked if he just opts to pursue a basketball career professionally somewhere.

Matta has done great things at OSU but these last 3 years have not been good. The 2011 class completely bombed and the 2015 class that replaced them is already bailing after 1 year. Will be interesting to see how much longer Matta sticks around.

Mitchell was the one I figured would transfer all year.

If Matta is leaving, he should come out with it and they need to put a full court press on Mack or Miller.

Mitchell and Harris I could care less about. Giddens I hate seeing go.

Been rumored for awhile but Harris is now officially gone as well. 4 out of the 5 from the freshman class gone.

Hopefully Funderburke and Potter can replace Giddens. Also, I'm not sure Giddens was any better than Bell, who I thought actually was ok when he got time.

Giddens had some upside but was awful and completely out of control on offense and always in foul trouble. Dude couldn't stay on the floor. Mitchell is terrible I'm glad he left. Harris I think could be a solid pg but probably never was going to get the minutes he wanted so probably for the best. Hopefully Thad can get back to bringing in better recruits to get this program back to where he had it.

I just think it's a pipe dream to think Matta can recruit the way he did. Does he even travel with his back anymore? He is in such bad health, and I think the recruiting trail is where it's taken the biggest toll. He can't put the effort into it anymore. Unless they get 5* in their backyard, it seems he will have trouble consistently landing any. Whereas before, he could get them from Indiana, Illinois etc. But now consistently traveling to see these kids is making it tough to make the impression on them that's needed.

I agree with this. I don't know for sure about Matta, but the travel it takes to really make impressions on recruits these days is crazy. I know Coach Cal is sometimes hitting multiple plane rides and high school/AAU games in the same day. Heck, the day UK was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, he was on a recruiting visit later that evening. The day after eliminated by UNC, Tom Crean and Calipari were visiting a Sophomore recruit together. They are at virtually every major tournament or event. I can't blame someone for not wanting to keep up this pace, it's gotta be daunting at times but it's what you have to do to woo these recruits.

That is something I was thinking while talking with a friend last night. Guys like Harris, Giddens and Mitchell were essentially bench guys. They all started a few games last year, but is was either due to injury (Mitchell over Tate), because they had a good game while the starter had a bad game or two (Harris over Lyle) or because no one at the position was a remotely consistent starting-caliber player (Giddens over Thompson). They were also Top 100 (or close to it, in Mitchell's case) recruits who probably came into college with certain PT expectations.

This year, due to performance, they got limited, inconsistent playing time. Every single player on the team still has eligibility and, therefore, could be expected to return, so that wasn't going to automatically change next year. Loving is the only senior on next year's team, so it conceivably could be the same when they're juniors unless they started showing something that warranted them getting PT in front of Tate/Lyle/Bates-Diop/Thompson. Of the transfers, Giddens had the clearest route to more PT because Thompson also is a foul-prone guy who isn't always consistent in effort, but with the team having a couple post players coming in next year, he might have seen himself stuck in a role-player mode for the duration, getting 10-15 a game and peaking at that.

Do people actually expect Thompson back? He's going to be 22 before this year's draft even happens. What if he just wants to make money? It's not like he's going to come back to OSU and vault into the lottery...his potential is already so limited A) he isn't very good and B) he's old.

I have no knowledge of his situation but just given this info, I'd bet he doesn't come back.

Depends on some factors, in particular if he has his degree. If he does, I guess there's nothing keeping him around, but for a limited player, I could see obtaining that as a priority, so he has something to fall back on other than playing in Korea or Turkey.

Every Ohio State writer I've read is expecting him back. Haven't seen an article where they think him leaving is a real possibility.

Looks like the Buckeyes have agreed to play in the Veterans Classic taking on Navy in Annapolis this fall.

The other game will be Marquette vs. Vanderbilt. One of the story lines with Marquette is that head coach Steve Wojciechowski is a Severna Park native, which is minutes away from the Naval Academy. It's also the town I used to reside in. Great community.

Juco G CJ Jackson committed to OSU today. Don't know much about him but sounds like he can shoot which is much needed.

Saw a tweet on twitter today that 'sounding like Chris Jent will be replacing Jeff Boals as assistant coach at Ohio State.'

I'll all in for this....I think that Ohio State has gotten worse each season since Jent left.

can't blame it all on him leaving, but there is a lot of truth to this
