That is something I was thinking while talking with a friend last night. Guys like Harris, Giddens and Mitchell were essentially bench guys. They all started a few games last year, but is was either due to injury (Mitchell over Tate), because they had a good game while the starter had a bad game or two (Harris over Lyle) or because no one at the position was a remotely consistent starting-caliber player (Giddens over Thompson). They were also Top 100 (or close to it, in Mitchell's case) recruits who probably came into college with certain PT expectations.
This year, due to performance, they got limited, inconsistent playing time. Every single player on the team still has eligibility and, therefore, could be expected to return, so that wasn't going to automatically change next year. Loving is the only senior on next year's team, so it conceivably could be the same when they're juniors unless they started showing something that warranted them getting PT in front of Tate/Lyle/Bates-Diop/Thompson. Of the transfers, Giddens had the clearest route to more PT because Thompson also is a foul-prone guy who isn't always consistent in effort, but with the team having a couple post players coming in next year, he might have seen himself stuck in a role-player mode for the duration, getting 10-15 a game and peaking at that.
